Lynx 0-1 Crediton
CUP

Lynx 1-0 Westhill
Cup

Up against a strong Westhill team the Lynx had to defend solidly for a long time of this game and again all the players produced an excellent display to go in at half time 0 – 0.

They took the lead in the second half after a move which resulted in Darren Everest beating three players around the edge of the box and placing his shot beyond the diving keeper.

Again all of the players performed really well and deserved to reach the next round of the cup.

Squad: - Sam Conway, James Helman, Ben Hawley, Sam Richards, James England, Shaun Hepburn, Billy Warren, Luke Iddon, Lewis White.

Lynx 1-1 Exwick

On a very heavy pitch the young Brixington side entertained, for the first time, a side from Exwick. The final scoreline of 1-1 was a fair result for the two teams who were equally matched.

The game started with the Lynx playing down the slope with lots of confidence, an early goal was inevitable as Luke Iddon stroked the ball passed the Exwick goalie following a cross from James England. This goal did no more than encourage the Exwick side who attacked the home side goal for the rest of the half. Stout defending was required by the team, and players like James Helman, Ben Hawley, Billy Warren and Sam Richards put in all the tackles they could to keep out the attacking side.

In the second half with exwick now attacking down the slope the Blues spent virtually the whole half defending, with Sam Conway, in goal, making several good saves.

The equalising goal came which left Brixington hanging on for the draw. The final score of 1 –1 was an entertaining game, with every credit going to the defence who managed to keep the the Exwick side at bay for long periods of the game.

Lynx 3-2 St Martins

This was perhaps the best performance of the season so far with the boys battling back from a 2-1 deficit at half time.

With good early pressure James England scored the first goal of the game following a good sequence of passing  involving Darren Everest and Luke Iddon. A lack of concentration for a 5 minute spell left a St Martin striker unmarked on two occasions – only to score twice! The half time score was 2 – 1 to the Exwick based side.

Playing with the slight slope in the second half the Blues continually pressured the visitors and were awarded with a fantastic equalising goal from Darren Everest who scored with a lovely strike.

The final 5 mins became frantic with both sides equally wanting the victory, the Brixington side were however playing the better football, as their passing game materialised despite the heavy conditions. The winning goal was scored by the hard working Lewis White,  following a good passing movement involving several players.

The final score was just reward for a hard working team who battled for the goal game on a pitch which was very heavy underfoot. The whole team played its part in the victory but special mention must go to Sam Conway in goal, James England, Lewis White and Shaun Hepburn for the total effort they put into the victory.

Team:– Sam Conway, Sam Richards, James Helman, Ben Hawley, James England, Lewis White, Darren Everest, Shaun Hepburn, Luke Iddon,Billy Warren

Blues Triumph in Colyton Tournament

Brixington Blues under 9’s entered two football teams into the Colyton Youth 6 a side tournament at the weekend.

Playing in a league format the Cougars and Lynx teams where drawn against each other in the first game, this resulted in a 1-0 win to the Cougars, winning from a George Pannell penalty.

All of the players involved produced some good passing football on very small pitches.

The Lynx team then picked themselves up and beat Exmouth B 3-0 and drew 0-0 with Exmouth A. Against a very strong Colyton they produced a 1-1 score line and the Sidmouth game ended 0-0.

The Cougars team beat Exmouth B 2-0, Exmouth A 3-1, Sidmouth 1-0 and drew with both Colyton teams 0-0 in very tight games.

Against Heavitree the Lynx battled well and ended the game 0-0.

This result then set up the game of the tournament which saw Heavitree against the Cougars team. Heavitree undefeated with 16 pts and the Cougars with 14 pts, the organisers could not have realised when the draw had been made it would produce the deciding game of the day on who would be the winner and runners-up.

Having many encounters against Heavitree in the Exeter friendly league the team knew it would be close.

The goal that broke the deadlock was produced by the Cougars, it resulted from defender Jack Renton who delivered the ball from the left side of his half to the right hand side of the midfield that fell perfectly for Jonjo Hunt to run onto who knocked it forward and struck a perfect low shot across the diving goalkeeper who had no chance of stopping it. This was the only goal that Heavitree had conceded all day.

For the Cougars George Pannell and Aiden Martin both produced excellent midfield performances and the defence of Aaron Conway and Jack Renton never looked under pressure, when called upon Josh Adam made some excellent saves for the Cougars as did Sam Conway in goal for the Lynx.

This was a fitting end to the season for the Cougars, playing their final game and winning this tournament after providing some excellent football over the last 6 months, in this only their first full season together.

In the Blues squad all the players performed well, but overall the Managers player of the day goes to Lewis White who produced an excellent display in defence and midfield for the Lynx team and  was rewarded by scoring the goal in the 1-0 win over Colyton.

The group games ended as follows :-

Brixington Blues under 9’s entered a mixed team into the above tournament at the weekend on a hot summers day and produced some outstanding football throughout their group stage games.

The group games ended with Played 6, Won 3, Drew 2 & Lost 1.

The highlight of the group games was a 0-0 against a strong Twyford Lazio team and a 1-1 against Barnstaple FC, who scored with their last kick of the game. The draw against Lazio showed how much the team have progressed over the second half of the season.

Goal scorers George Pannell 2, Jonjo Hunt 1, Aiden Martin 1, George Gibson-Smith 1 & John Purchall 1.

These results took the team into the quarter final stage against a team called SAS A, the Blues had already defeated the SAS B team in the group stages, so we knew the game was going to be close.

By the end of full time the score was 0-0, the period of extra time could still not break the deadlock, so penalties would now decide the outcome. In the end the Blues lost 5-4, but overall the team on the day played entertaining and enjoyable football to watch.

Blues squad : - Josh Adam, John Purchall, Jack Renton, Jonjo Hunt, Aiden Martin, George Pannell, George Gibson-Smith,Darren Everest.
