Jaguars 2-4 Exmouth Jets (AET)

“Heartbreak for Brixington as Jets Win on Penalties”

With the added incentive of a place in the Sainsbury U10s cup final, the result of this Exmouth local derby match couldn’t have been more crucial. Last years’ Plate competition winners Brixington Jaguars started well, determined to force an early goal. But it was the Jets that stunned the excited crowd by scoring from their first real attack. Chipping the ball over the Jaguars midfield and defensive line of Jacob Tinsley and Thomas Evans, a low struck finish left a diving Alex Yolland little chance but to retrieve the ball from the back of the net. Spurred on by the initial success, the Jets pushed forward with more confidence forcing a frenetic midfield battle as the Jags dropped back deeper in defence. Both teams gave away free kicks in crucial positions, creating opportunities that were then squandered, but the resilient Jaguars shifted up a gear, redoubling their efforts to make up the deficit. Working hard on the left, Jack Gilhooly proved the perfect balance for Sebastian Jones on the right. With Aaron Denny driving through the centre and Peter Wright on strike, the Jaguars redefined the tempo and balance of the game. The constant pressure on the beleagured Jets defence, and rising tension in the crowd from the expectation of an equalizer, was broken only by the intervention of the half-time whistle.

From the outset of the second half, it was clear that the established pattern of the game would continue. The quality of the Jags passing play at pace continued to threaten, but it was the tireless running of ‘dynamo’ Tinsley, gaining possession all over the pitch, that gave the Jaguars the competitive edge. Early on, George Toomey was denied by a fine diving save from the Jets keeper. Denny then went close from a corner – and Liam Dickinson, seizing on the rebound, fired sweetly home a well-earned equalizer. The Jags then threw everything forward in an effort to secure the lead, forcing fine last ditch tackles from the Jets’ defence. The ball was then dramatically cleared off the line following a strike from Tinsley, who subsequently hit the post twice more in successive attacks. A shot from Jones then hit the bar. But for all their efforts, the Jags failed to convert so at full time the score line remained even at one a piece. A limited period of extra time merely added to the home fans frustration and sadly the result of the match had to be resolved on penalties. The Jets led the penalty shootout, scoring from their first and second strikes. When the Jags failed to convert their second penalty, and the Jets then netted their third and last - the game was beyond Brixingtons’ reach. After their Plate competition success last year, it is now the Jets that carry Exmouths’ hopes onto the Sainsbury Friendly (U10s) Cup final to be played at Exeter City St James’ Park stadium.

Scorers: - Dickinson , Denny (pen).

Twyford Madrid 0-2 Jaguars
(Cup)

“Exmouth Jets stand between Brixington Jaguars and Cup Final”

Against a powerful headwind, and on a narrow pitch that limited the normal effectiveness of their wing play, Brixington Jaguars gradually overhauled a Twyford Madrid team that had initially started the sprightlier of the two teams. As the Jags gained the upper hand, a succession of corners led to the first goal of the match - Aaron Denny pushing the ball home just inside the far post from a low struck cross.

After the break, the Jaguars quickly extended their lead, enterprising passing play rewarded when Jack Gilhooly struck home at close range – volleying high under the cross bar, giving the Madrid defence no chance. Undaunted though, Madrid fought back. Alex Yolland was forced to make an excellent diving save as an attack from Madrid broke through the defensive stranglehold of Jacob Tinsley and Thomas Evans. Ably supported by Sebastian  Jones and Manfy Sharpe - Liam Dickinson and Aaron Denny began to strike a good understanding in front of goal. Under their relentless attack, it seemed only a question of time before the Jaguars would score again, but embattled Twyford held out for a final score of 2-0. Plate competition winners last year, only a local derby against Exmouth Town Jets now stands in the way of the Jaguars reaching this year's Sainsbury Friendly Cup (U10s) competition.

Twyford Ajjacio 0-3 Jaguars

Wave after wave of sweeping attack play by the Brixington Jaguars rolled over a gallant  Twyford Ajjacio, who succumbed to an early goal scored by Peter Wright. Ajjacio's stalwart defence then manfully held out against thoughtful play involving Jack Gilhooly and Jacob Tinsley coming through from defence combining with Manfy Sharpe, Sebastian Jones and George Toomey in midfield. Although active and enterprising, the Jaguars failed to convert their chances.

In the second half, Evans tackling hard at left back recaptured the ball and released it to Wright who had dropped back into a deep position. Driving forward, he cleverly held the ball until delivering a weighted pass of pinpoint accuracy that carved through the Ajjacio defence. Running onto the pass Liam Dickinson unleashed a low, superbly driven shot into the bottom corner. After that carefully crafted and much deserved second goal a tactical shift saw Jacob Tinsley replace Alex Yolland in goal. Manfy Sharpe then went close upfront and the ever-ready Aarron Denny still full of running had a number of strikes on goal. The Jaguars third and final goal of the game came as Wright volleyed one such shot from Denny, passed the despairing reach of the Ajjacio keeper. Late in the game Yolland delivered an excellent cross to George Toomey who was denied a headed goal by only a hairs breadth.

Westexe Rangers 2-0 Jaguars

 “Unbeaten Record Lost to Westexe”

In a fiercely contested match, both Westexe Rangers and Brixington Jaguars strove hard to break the defensive resolve of the other. After a series of strikes on goal at both ends, drawing fine saves from both keepers, the game descended into a hard physical struggle as both teams competed for each and every ball. Toward the end of the first half Rangers finally broke through shooting passed a diving, but beaten, Alex Yolland - only for the ball to go just wide. With an edge established in midfield, Rangers finished the stronger side, but half time came as a welcome break for both teams manfully dealing with the heavy conditions. Early in the second half, after more fine saves from Yolland, the resistance of the Jaguars was finally overcome. Despite tackling back after looking for that elusive goal upfront, incisive passing by the Rangers carved through the normally resilient Jaguars. The breakthrough proved decisive as the ball was punched home after a low shot drove across the goalmouth. The Jaguars pushed up looking for an equalizer, Aarron Denny going close - only to be twice beaten at the last by an agile Rangers keeper. After a period of sustained pressure without reward, the Jaguars were then caught on the break and punished with another superb strike. In a physically draining game, Rangers finally ran out the worthy winners, depriving the Jaguars of their unbeaten league record.

Westexe Athletic 1-1Jaguars

The Jaguars initially struggled to find any real form against a committed Westexe Athletic side - as both teams tried to adapt to muddy conditions. Quagmired in a midfield tussle, the stalemate was finally broken with by a goal by Athletic - a well struck shot neatly tucking away the rebound from a corner that had been initially parried out by goalkeeper Alex Yolland. The Jaguars responded from the restart. Thomas Evans, masterful in defence, released the ball to George Toomey on the left. Driving through two defenders, Toomey then cut the ball back inside to Jacob Tinsley who, arriving at pace, unleashed a powerful shot which hit the post. A tactical shift at half time moved Jack Gilhooly onto the right side of midfield, a move which rejuvenated the Jaguars style of play. A ball won by the hard tackling Manfy Sharpe on the left, led to the best passing move of the match, involving Tinsley and Aarron Denny, but finishing with an accurate shot from the eager Gilhooly that forced an excellent save from the Westexe keeper. Peter Wright then seized on a half chance presented to him, turning passed a defender to volley home from distance making it all square at one apiece. The Jaguars finished the match the stronger team - but the honours remained even at full time.

Jaguars 1-0 Crediton Saints B

Sainsbury Friendly (U10s) Cup Competition

“Jaguars Sink Titanic Crediton”

Both teams played inventive and well executed football with ‘mucho gusto’ - defining a hard fought and thoroughly entertaining Sainsbury’s Cup match. Crediton started the strongest with accurate passing play that initially troubled Brixington. But the Saints were continually thwarted by the strong tackling of Jacob Tinsley and Thomas Evans, allowing Alex Yolland to command from goal and gather in safely when needed. Aarron Denny and Jack Gilhooly worked hard in the centre, providing an effective counter balance to the enterprising and battling midfield of the Saints. The Jaguars then went closest to scoring, the ball criss-crossing the Saints goalmouth just missing that final touch. Before the close of the first half Peter Wright deftly chipped the keeper only to be beaten by the cross bar. Sebastian Jones then struck a low shot destined to curve inside the post, but a fine diving save from the Saints keeper pushed the ball wide. At half time the honours were even in this titanic struggle.

After the break, with George Toomey playing on the left and Liam Dickinson on the right the Jaguars began to gain the upper hand. Both teams pressed forward, tackling back when possession was lost, but a difference between the two sides gradually began to emerge in the recycling play. On the end of another surging riposte out from defence by Tinsley – Jones delighted the home supporters with a powerful shot that cannoned off the angle of the post and cross bar. Having recovered the ball in midfield, Denny then slid the ball through to Dickinson who shrugged off one tackle, superbly striking the first and only goal of the match beyond the despairing reach of the Saints keeper. Both teams could be proud of what was an excellent display of quality football, played with a fine competitive spirit. With a single goal separating the two sides, Brixington proved the deserved winners.

Jaguars 4-1 Stokehill

“Jaguars Rampant”

A neat header from a set piece corner gave sprightly Stokehill an early lead, but within minutes the counter-attacking Jaguars equalized through a solo effort from Sebastian Jones. Driving out of defence, he cut in from the left wing, finishing with an unstoppable shot high into the top corner. Enterprising skill from Thomas Evans and Jack Gilhooly freed Jacob Tinsley and Aarron Denny to raid through the centre midfield. The Jags’ persistence was finally rewarded when Peter Wright, jinking through the beleaguered Stokehill defence, sidestepped the goalkeeper to push home at close range for the Jags second.

After the break, the now rampant Jaguars continued to pen Stokehill back in their own half, with Liam Dickinson going close. Following a goalmouth scramble Manfy Sharpe seized on a loose ball to strike home at close range, the ball cannoning off the far post, and across the goal line. Just before the close of play, Wright chipped from distance to make it four.

Scorers: - Wright 4;Jones; Sharpe:

Jaguars 3-0 St. Martins

Jaguars outmanoeuvred a purposeful St. Martins team with superior passing movements. From the outset, the pattern of the game was established as the Jags defensive partnership of Evans and Tinsley dominated from defence. Driving wing play from Dickinson on the right and Toomey on the left, spread the St.Martins' defence, but it was the link play of Gilhooly and Sharpe in midfield that brought real variation to the Jags attack. The ball was either crossed in, or cleverly laid back - typically for Jones or Denny to then strike at goal. One such strike was dramatically pushed onto the bar and out, only to be headed back in by Denny and seized on by Wright for the first goal of the match. The Jags went further ahead just before the break, Denny adroitly turning his marker and sidestepping the keeper just in front of goal to make it two.

The second half brought no respite for St. Martins who manfully defended, but the Jags went three up just before the close, when Sharpe scored from distance with a well placed snapshot.

Scorers: - Wright; Denny; Sharpe:
Team: - Aarron Denny, Liam Dickinson, Thomas Evans, Jack Gilhooly, Sebastian Jones, Manfy Sharpe, Jacob Tinsley, George Toomey, Peter Wright, Alex Yolland.

Pinhoe A 0-0 Jaguars

“Jaguars Shaken but not Stirred”

Unbeaten Jaguars kept their cool against an enterprising Pinhoe. In muddy conditions both teams struggled with passing play in what became an end to end tussle. Jacob Tinsley worked hard to drive play through from defensive positions – but neither side could make the vital breakthrough. Alex Yolland foiled Pinhoes’ best opportunity of the first half, gauging the timing of his run out from goal to perfection, making a vital interception before Pinhoe could score from a nicely weighted through ball. The stalemate continued throughout the second half – an evenly contested match finishing appropriately as a goalless draw.

Pinhoe B 2-2 Jaguars

The game opened with shots from George Toomey and Manfy Sharpe driving up the wings, with Aaron Denny surging through centre midfield – but it was Pinhoe that struck first. After a scrambled goalmouth clearance, a snapshot agonisingly crept just inside the near post. The stunned Jaguars struggled to recover their form, but with Thomas Evans and Jack Gilhooly providing the necessary saving tackles when needed  – Toomey, Aarron Denny, Sebastian Jones and Peter Wright were gradually given more freedom to target the  Pinhoe goal. A penalty was their reward after Wright, neatly turning his defender was then brought down with only the keeper to beat. However the Pinhoe keeper made a fine diving save to deny Denny and the Jags their equaliser. Caught on the break, the Jags then went further behind with a second well taken goal from Pinhoe. Showing great composure, an undaunted Jags kept up the pressure, their efforts finally rewarded as Wright once again turned passed his marker before switching to his left to fire home a neatly placed shot. With continuing urgency, the Jags pressed hard looking for the illusive equalizer. After a sequence of corners with shots from Toomey and Gilhooly, the ball finally came out to Jones who rifled in a long distance shot. A game of two halves – the result a draw and a shaken, but still unbeaten Jaguars.

Scorers: - Wright;
Team: - Aarron Denny, Thomas Evans, Jack Gilhooly, Sebastian Jones, Manfy Sharpe, Jacob Tinsley, George Toomey, Peter Wright, Alex Yolland.

Jaguars 2- 0 Central Reds

The second goal was an individual effort by Aarron Denny who won the ball on the edge of his area and running the length of the pitch weaving his way past the opposition before slotting the ball past the keeper at the second attempt.

Kentibeare 0-3 Jaguars

The Jaguars first game after Christmas and playing on a difficult surface, they found it hard to play the passing game which they are used to.  The first goal came from a direct Seb Jones corner to open the scoring. With the Kentisbeare keeper making numerous saves to thwart the Brixington attack.  Second half goals by George Toomey and Liam Dickinson completed the score.

Alex Yolland in goal made a fine save coming out and blocking with his feet, one of the few touches he had in the game.  The Jaguars completed the score when Liam Dickinson crossed in from the right for Peter Wright to score, this was quickly followed by a Liam Dickinson goal.

Jaguars 8-0 Heavitree Hawks

“Relentless Jaguars Turn Up the Heat”

Urged forward by the commanding presence of Alex Yolland in goal, the Brixington Jaguars tested the defensive resolve of the Heavitree Hawks from the outset. Liam Dickinson linked well with Sebastian Jones on the right flank, the quality of their efforts matched by that of Thomas Evans and Manfy Sharpe on the left. The Jags decisive wing play stretched the Hawks defence, forcing a series of fine saves from the keeper, the early pressure rewarded with an opening goal by Jacob Tinsley, volleying home a low struck cross from Jones. The Hawks fought back, but the surging runs of Tinsley through the centre helped to keep their goal besieged. Latching onto an accurate corner from George Toomey, Peter Wright then rose to head home the Jags’ second goal. After a powerful solo run from midfield, Jones then unleashed an unstoppable shot to make it three. Breaking out from defence, the plucky Hawks then hit the bar, but at the other end Wright then grabbed his second and a fourth for the Jags with a goalmouth volley. Jack Gilhooly then struck an accurate shot too hard and high for the Hawks keeper to reach, making it five nil at half time.

In the second half a reorganised Jags continued the scoring run. Toomey, thrusting up the right wing went close - but it was Sharpe, striking a sweet shot from long distance, that made it six for the Jags. A persistent Toomey, tackling hard, then stole the ball and sliced a superb pass through to Wright in the centre who turned the ball home at the far post for his hat trick and the Jaguars seventh. The Hawks hurled themselves forward in search of an illusive goal, but with Gilhooly and Evans stalwart in defence, the central midfield wave of Jones, Tinsley and Aarron Denny now controlled the pace of the game. Each time the Hawks threatened, the Jaguars simply turned up the heat, raiding out of defence at speed. Denny then hit the post and just before the final whistle Toomey made it eight, seizing on the rebound of a shot from Jones that was just too hard for the excellent Hawks keeper to hold.

Scorers: - Wright 3;Tinsley; Jones; Gilhooly; Sharpe; Toomey:

Jaguars 5-1 Heavitree Eagles

Following a long distance clearance, the Heavitree Eagles stunned the Jaguars with an   early goal, a driven shot placed just beyond the outstretched hands of a diving Alex Yolland. An end to end struggle ensued as each team attempted to breach the defensive lines of the other. The stalemate was broken as Manfy Sharpe, cutting in from the right wing, beat two defenders and released the ball to Liam Dickinson who pounced at close range to strike the equalizer home. Playing with more urgency and conviction, the Jaguars pressed hard looking to put the game beyond reach. Elegant passing play involving Jacob Tinsley, Aarron Denny and Sebastian Jones set up Peter Wright who turned the ball in at the far post. Surging through the centre Jones then made it three for the Jaguars. Just before the end of the first half, a shot from George Toomey was pushed onto the near post by an excellent Eagles keeper.

The second half started as the first half closed, with Toomey sweeping in from the wing, setting himself and striking a low shot that this time cannoned off the far post. Sustained pressure kept the Eagles pegged back in their own half, a sequence of crosses and corners forcing a series of fine saves from their keeper including a powerful strike from Tinsley that was pushed onto the bar and over. The Hawk’s defensive resolve was finally broken following a corner taken by Toomey, Jones striking home just inside the far post for the  Jaguars fourth goal. The excitement increased as the enterprising Eagles broke out from defence, forcing the diving Yolland to turn the ball around the post for a corner. From the cross, a well struck shot from the Eagles then hit the post. The rebound was picked up by Thomas Evans, who passed the ball to Sharpe running on an overlap, deftly touching the ball inside to Jones who then picked out Dickinson . His strike, just under the bar, gave the relentless Jaguars their fifth goal before the close of play.

Westexe Athletic 0-2 Jaguars

With a tricky away tie to Westexe Athletic inthe first round of the cup, the nerves were settled half way through the first period when a Aarron Denny shot was spilled by the keeper for Liam Dickinson to follow up from a rebound.  The tie was made safe when a Seb Jones corner was headed past the keeper by Tinsley to make it 2 0.

Special mention to George Toomey for a great game in goal.

Broadclyst 1-3 Jaguars

“Unstoppable Brixington Deserved Winners”

In a fiercely contested match, two goals came early in the first half before either team had settled into a pattern of play. An opening goal from the deflected shot of Seb Jones gave the jaguars an early lead, but Broadclyst quickly hit back with an equalizer. In an end to end tussle, both teams then broke from defence searching for an illusive second goal. But it was the Jaguars, now playing with more conviction and a better shape to their game,  started to move the ball around at pace. Under mounting pressure, an excellent Broadclyst keeper was forced to make a series of fine saves from hard struck shots. Brixington were rewarded in the dying minutes of the first half when George Toomey struck a delightful chip, curling his shot over the keeper to make it two.

The second half began much as the first half had ended with the Jaguars continuing to use their possession of the ball to greater effect. With goalkeeper Alex Yolland and defensive combination of  Jacob Tinsley and Thomas Evans now proving unbeatable, Seb Jones, Aarron Denny, Manfy Sharpe and Jack Gilhooly produced a sequence of scything runs through the Broadclyst midfield. Up on strike, Liam Dickinson went close, hitting the post and sidestepping the keeper with the rebound, only to be finally stopped by two Broadclyst central defenders. Peter Wright finally put the game beyond reach, seizing on a through ball from Aaron Denny to strike low and hard just inside the post. In a game of two halves, Brixington had first subdued and then overhauled a Broadclyst side that continued to threaten to the end, but the valiant Jaguars deserved their win. Final score Brixington Jaguars 3-1Broadclyst.

Feniton 0-19 Jaguars

A ferocious Brixington tore into Feniton with all the lethal precision of their Jaguar namesake. Goals came in quick succession from George Toomey (2), Peter Wright (2), Aarron Denny (2), from Jacob Tinsley, Liam Dickinson and Thomas Evans (2). Feniton  struggled on heroically, but by half time the Jaguars had established an unassailable 10-0 lead. All credit to Feniton who came out fighting in the second half, only to be punished again by another wrack of Brixington goals. Aarron Denny scored twice more, the second from a penalty after Peter Wright was brought down with only the keeper to beat. Jack Gilhooly scored next with a well struck shot after another of his surging runs through midfield. A delightfully placed cross from George Toomey was then met with the head of Peter Wright, who turned the ball in at the far post for his hat trick. After strong support play from Manfy Sharpe, Thomas Evans cut in from his drive up the right wing, switching onto his favoured left foot to thunder the ball home for his hat trick. After good linking play between Aarron Denny and Seb Jones, the ball was released to Manfy Sharpe who was next on the score sheet. Seb Jones then scored from a great solo effort, followed by a goal from Alex Yolland coming forward as a central striker. Just before the close of play Thomas Evans scored his fourth from another powerful shot, making the final score 19-0 to an unstoppable Jaguars.

Jaguars 8-0 Exeter South

Last years U10s Plate winners Brixington Jaguars simply overwhelmed an Exeter South side that had no answer to an all round team performance of real quality. From the outset the Exeter South goal was besieged. Denny went close early on, but Jones - on a surging run up the left wing - cut inside and passed the ball to Tinsley who secured the opening goal with a low driven shot. Just moments later, Tinsley delivered an accurate through ball to Denny who curved the ball inside the far post, just beyond the hands of the diving keeper. Dickinson then made it three and Denny scored his second soon after, making it 4-0 at half time.

In the second half Exeter South regrouped and for a time a midfield stalemate ensued. From defence goalkeeper (Alex) Yolland then passed the ball to brother Daniel who started a move that ended with Toomey adroitly turning his marker to deliver a perfectly weighted ball to Dickinson who struck home for the Jag’s fifth goal. Gilhooly, rampaging up the right wing, showered the Exeter goal with a series of excellent crosses. Sharpe hit the post, but following a fumbled goalmouth clearance the ever eager Dickinson pounced to take his hat trick and the Jag’s sixth goal.  Just before full time Jones struck twice more, making the final score 8-0 to the Jaguars.

Jaguars 7-1 Countess Weir Dynamos

Against a Dynamos side that lacked shape, the first half was characterized by a series of ‘oh so near’ missed chances.  Tinsley and Gilhooly were solid in defence, and with Toomey and Jones working hard up the left and right wings, Denny and Jones were allowed to raid up through the centre. Denny hit the first goal for the Jags striking a sweet volley from a Jones’ cross. Coming through from defence, a shot from (Daniel) Yolland was touched onto the bar by the Dynamos keeper, but it was a fumbled cross from Denny that gave the Jags their second goal just before half time.

The second half started much as the first had ended - and a corner taken by Jones was latched on to by Denny making it 3-0. The Dynamos then stretched the Jags defence for the first time scoring a consolation goal, only to be hit immediately by a fourth goal from Denny making it 4-1. Perhaps spurred on by the Dynamos goal, a rejuvenated Jags upped the tempo of their game and three more goals followed in quick succession – one from Tinsley and two more from Toomey – his second from individual skill beating two defenders and neatly sidestepping the keeper. Full time and the Jags second goal fest of the day had ended, this game finishing 7-1.

 Jaguars 4-0 Exwick Youth

In the first home match of the season, Brixington Jaguars pressed forward right from the start - looking for an early goal against an Exwick Youth side that consequently struggled to break out of defence. The sustained pressure from the Jags was soon rewarded with a goal from a long distance shot by Tinsley. With Yolland, Evans and Tinsley providing a solid defensive platform, excellent passing and support play through the midfield allowed the Jags to dominate. Continuing his run through the centre, Denny latched onto an accurate return ball from Wright to punch home the second goal for the Jags just before half time.

In the second half, Gilhooly and Toomey made a series of surging runs down the wings. With Tinsley helping to drive the Brixington powerplay in midfield, Sharpe and Jones linked to allow Dickinson to go close on a number of occasions - but it was a measured strike from Wright that finally made it three for Brixington. Just before full time, a shot from Denny proved just too hard for the Exwick keeper to hold, which Wright seized on, neatly sidestepping the keeper to slot home Brixington’s fourth. Final score 4-0.

Alphington Arrows 1-2 Jaguars

Brixington Jaguars faced strong competition from the Arrows in the opening match of the season and both teams played with determination despite torrential rain. Midway through the first half, after a period of sustained pressure, the Jags finally broke though the Arrows defence. Good support play from Tinsley, Jones and Toomey led to a deflected shot from Denny which left the Arrows keeper little chance. Liam Dickinson, on his debut for the Jags, almost scored before half time, his snapshot just clearing the bar.

The Arrows fought back in the second half, but the Jags defence held firm, drawing saving tackles from Evans and Gilhooly and some fine diving saves from Yolland. Breaking out from defence the Jags continued to push up as a unit, with Wright on strike going close - but it was Toomey, cutting inside from the left wing that gave Jags their second goal from a well struck shot. Debutant Manfy Sharpe also went close to scoring during a goal mouth scramble. Arrows hit back with a consolation goal just before the close of play, final score 2-1 to Brixington.

Alphington Spears 0-6 Jaguars

Initially there was little to separate the two teams as the game began with a midfield tussle in atrocious conditions. As the rain eased, the quality of passing improved and the game opened up. The Spears then had no answer to the all round strength and passing play of the Jaguars. In the fifth minute, Toomey went close in front of goal, the ball was cleared – but only as far as Denny, who had time to set himself, shoot and score. As the Spears fought back looking for the equalizer, Sharpe stole the ball in midfield, slotting a perfect pass through to Wright who struck an accurate left foot shot beyond the reach of the Spears’ diving keeper.

In the second half, following elegant interplay between Evans, Sharpe and Dickinson - Sharpe, who had continued her run, made the distance to meet the final pass from Wright, striking the ball home for her debut goal. With Yolland staying alert for strikes on goal in the difficult conditions, a solid defence allowed the Jags to dominate the midfield. Jaguars attack play using both wings stretched the Spears’ defence and with Jones and Dickinson surging through the centre, a succession of strikes followed on the Spear’s goal. A partial clearance from an Evans’ free kick led to Wright hitting his second, followed shortly after by his third for a hat trick. Just before full-time, Jags scored again – another strike from Sharpe. Game over 6-0.

Exeter City 0-3 Brixington

© Simon Denny

An invitation to Exeters St James Park for Brixington U10s to play Exeter Citys school of Excellence U10s was duly accepted.  Four of the Brixington squad are currently at Exeter , Seb Jones, Jacob Tinsley, Aarron Denny who played for their local side and Connor Gilby in goal for City.

Exeter City started the brighter putting Brixington keeper Alex Yolland under pressure right from the start, defenders Bennington and Tinsley had to be alert with City pushing forward.  Jones, working tirelessly in the middle, created an opening for Denny to send a 30 yard ball to Toomey to rifle a left foot volley past the City keeper.  With solid performances by Gilhooly and Evans Brixington looked more comfortable passing the ball around and were unlucky not to score as the City goalkeeper four good saves.  Wright, playing up front, followed in a shot by Denny making the score 2 -0, this was followed up by a third with Tinsley and Jones winning the ball and sending Denny away to fire home an unstoppable shot.

Man of the match, for his tireless running, Jacob Tinsley.
