Twyford Ajjacio 1-5 Pumas

Pumas travelled to Tiverton to play against a determined Ajjacio side. With Connor Gilby unwell, Daniel Yolland took the position of goalkeeper for the first time this season. Pumas started well and Charlie Cotton was unlucky not to score and more so Bradley Lippett who cracked a shot against a post. Alex Manning playing left defence provided searching passes and Harry Douglas snuffed out any home attacks. Cotton provided the pass for Lippett to open the scoring with a close tap in and a Tim Dunn corner provided the assist for Tyler Dobinson to add the second just before half time.

Pumas continued to dominate after the break with Dunn again provide the pass this time for Cotton to score. Goal four was the pick of the match with Dunn running strongly from the halfway line and rounding the keeper to score. With minutes remaining the home side scored a good consolation goal, however, Pumas were not finished and Dunn bagged his second after Lippett saw his shot parried by the keeper.

Scorers: - Dunn 2; Lippett; Dobinson; Cotton:

Twyford Madrid 2-5 Pumas

Pumas made a dream start to match two as Cotton scored his second of the day inside the first minute. Madrid recovered well and scored from distance to level the score five minutes later. Both teams had further chances with Lippett and Dobinson both unlucky not to score but also Yolland made two fine saves and Jordan Bennington tackled strongly to keep out the home side. Pumas regained the lead with a Lippett shot but only a great headed goal line clearance from Douglas kept the Pumas lead intact at half time.

It was Twyford who had the dream start this time when a miss-hit cross looped into the Pumas goal. Pumas were not to be denied and flooded forward with waves of attacks. Dobinson restored the lead and then George Locke bagged a brace towards the end including a tap in after great work by Dobinson.

Scorers: - Locke 2; Cotton; Lippett; Dobinson:
Squad: - Daniel Yolland, Jordan Bennington, Harry Douglas, George Locke, Tim Dunn, Alex Manning, Charlie Cotton, Tyler Dobinson, Bradley Lippett

Westexe Rangers 4-0 Pumas

With a League record of sixteen wins and one draw so far this season the Pumas travelled to Exeter to tackle the top side in the form of Westexe Rangers. Pumas competed strongly from the start but found the home defence difficult to break down. Within four minutes Westexe were awarded a freekick, Connor Gilby was adjudged to have handled the ball outside the box, although this was hotly contested as the box area wasn’t actually marked!! After much protest the Westexe striker fired a great shot which Gilby saved only to see the ball rebound to another home player who scored. Westexe continued to apply pressure and only a wonderfull goal line clearence from Harry Douglas prevented another goal. When goal two arrived there was no doubt about its validity. From distance the westexe striker lobbed Gilby  and goal three also had great style following a neat passing move.

The Pumas tried hard after the break but could not create a meaningfull chance. The whole team battled hard but all the play was in the Pumas half. George Lock, Tim Dunn and Jordan Bennington all ran themselves into the ground with Bradley Lippett, up front, running hard to gain possession but to no avail. Westexe managed a fourth goal near the end which gave the scoreline a slightly unfair balance based on the Pumas sterling effort.

Westexe Athletic 1-1 Pumas

In the morning’s second game the Pumas were able to create the better early chances. Douglas had been moved to midfield and Dobinson into attack with Charlie Cotton playiny wide left. It was Cotton marauding down this flank who created the opportunity for Dobinson to fire home after six minutes. Despite enterprising play involving all the players half time arrived with no further score.

As the second half developed Athletic began to rest control of the game from the Pumas and again the Pumas had to defend for long periods. They seemed to have done the job and kept the home side at bay but with 3 minutes remaining a miss hit shot from the Westexe forward snuck past Gilby to level the score. The final result was indeed a fair reflection of the game and the Pumas left Exeter knowing they had been involved in two very hard games.

Scorers: - Dobinson:
Squad: - Connor Gilby, Jordan Bennington, Harry Douglas, George Locke, Tim Dunn, Alex Manning, Charlie Cotton, Tyler Dobinson, Bradley Lippett

Pumas 1-0 St Martins

A cold and sunny morning made for a great day to play football. St Martins, who had travelled from Exminster, found themselves immediately under pressure with Tyler Dobinson  forcing an early save from the away keeper. Pumas kept up the pressure and the only goal of the game arrived after 3 minutes. The St Martins defence cleared a corner to the halfway line where Daniel Yolland pick up the ball and dribbled past defenders to the edge of the box. A quick pass then found Dobinson who drilled a low right foot drive into the bottom corner. Normally an early goal would set the Pumas up for more but the away side regrouped and began to defend better and attack more. They nearly equalised but for a great diving save from home keeper Connor Gilby and god defending from Harry Douglas and Yolland.

The second half saw few chances created  by both sides as Tim Dunn and George Locke battled well in midfield and  Alex Manning and Jordan Bennington, both second half subs, snuffed out any St Martins attacks. Both Bradley Lippett and Manning created the best second half chances but the score remained one-nil.

Scorer: - Dobinson:

Pumas 3-0 Stoke Hill

Stoke Hill provided stern opposition with a well organised midfield and strong running attack. They created the best early chance but found Gilby in excellent form who saved well with his feet. Douglas and Bennington defended calmly ably assisted from midfield by Locke and Manning. Lippett and Dobinson worked tirelessly up front but chances for both sides were at a premium. With half time approaching Locke surged strongly down the left flank and flicked a pass to Manning. With a defender close by, Manning decided to hit a low first time cross which Dobinson reacted smartly too, and slid the ball past the away keeper.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Stoke Hill edging the possession but the Pumas creating the clearer chances. Again Locke was the catalyst for the second goal as his positive play and pass found Dobinson whose cool snap shot beat the diving keeper. As the final whistle approached Charlie Cotton was fouled right on the edge of the box, and despite the ball ending up in the net, play was brought back for a direct free kick. Alex Manning stepped up to hit an unstoppable left foot drive to the right of the keeper resulting in a three nil scoreline.

Scorers: -     Dobinson 2; Manning:
Squad: - Connor Gilby, Jordan Bennington, Harry Douglas, Daniel Yolland, George Locke, Tim Dunn, Alex Manning, Charlie Cotton, Tyler Dobinson, Bradley Lippett

Pinhoe B 1-5 Pumas

The Pumas travelled to Pinhoe knowing they would face a stern test against one of the leagues better clubs. Harry Douglas created the first opening with a strong run out of defence but saw his shot miss wide left of the goal. Moments later Alex Manning hit a stunning left foot drive from wide left into the Pinhoe goal. Further chances were created at will with Daniel Yolland feeling unlucky following good saves from two great shots. Three minutes before half time Charlie Cotton latched onto a Manning pass and smashed a shot into the goal. Cotton then turned  provider crossing for Douglas to hammer a great third goal. Despite creating little in the way of chances Pinhoe surprised the Pumas with a good goal with the last kick of the half

Pinhoe came out strongly for the second half but Connor Gilby, in goal, saved well and Jordan Bennington on as a substitute defended strongly. This encouraged the Pumas attack and goal four arrived courtesy of another Manning shot well hit from distance. Pumas two other substitutes, George Locke and Bradley Lippett, combined well to enable Locke to finish the scoring with a smart drive.

Scorers: - Manning 2; Cotton; Douglas; Locke:

Pinhoe A 1-3 Pumas

For two thirds of the first half,  Pinhoe A dominated the game. On a pitch larger than they were used too the Pumas  could not get the ball from the home side. Despite this Bennington and Douglas ably supported by Locke and Tim Dunn from midfield were able to keep the home side at bay. It was therefore quite a surprise to see the ball find its way into the net from a Pinhoe corner which left Gilby and Douglas looking quizzically at each other. Coach Bennington changed things around swapping Locke to centre midfield and Dunn wide left. This freed up Tyler Dobinson to forage forward and at last the Pumas started to play. With two minutes left of the half Dobinson raced clear from the halfway line and smashed an unstoppable right foot drive into the goal. Then superb skill and vision from Lippett  enabled Locke to score right on half time.

The second half saw Pumas play their best football of the season with all the boys contributing to a sensational display of tackling, passing and shooting which culminated in a wonderful third goal. Douglas brought the ball out of defence and passed to Manning who then danced past his opponent before sending an inch perfect cross to Locke who crashed a drive into the back of the net.

Scorers: - Locke 2; Dobinson:
Squad – Connor Gilby, Jordan Bennington, Harry Douglas, Daniel Yolland, George Locke, Tim Dunn, Alex Manning, Charlie Cotton, Tyler Dobinson, Bradley Lippett

Pumas 4-0 Central Yellows

A beautiful bright sunny day greeted both sets of players for the Pumas first home game of the year. Against a competitive Central side the Pumas passed well and created good chances, however, it took a full seven minutes before the first goal came. Charlie Cotton reacted quickly to a low Bradley Lippett cross and shot wide of the diving keeper. With Jordan Bennington, Harry Douglas and Alex Manning all playing well at the back Connor Gilby in goal had little to do.

Pumas stepped up the pace at the start of the second half, a Tyler Dobinson tap in and a Tim Dunn low drive made the score three nil. Pumas continued to pass well and both George Locke and Daniel Yolland were unlucky not to score. The final goal arrived with four minutes left, again Dunn shooting low, this time assisted by Manning.

Scorers: - Dunn 2;Dobinson; Cotton:

Pumas 3-2 Central Reds

Central Reds provided much sterner opposition for the Pumas second game of the morning. Both sides passed well and both created chances, Lippett and Cotton coming closest for the Pumas. The deadlock was broken on the nine minute mark when Dobinson hit a low drive into the net. Three minutes later Cotton, lashed a shot from close range, into the net from a Yolland cross.

Reds attacked from the start of the second half and scored a great goal after three minutes. Then two minutes later a big deflection, during a goal mouth scramble, left Gilby wrong footed and Reds were back level. Pumas now needed to dig deep and get over the shock of losing the lead, this they did and more. With five minutes left Locke received the ball wide right and with the Reds keeper advancing, audaciously chipped the ball over his head and into the net. Both sides created further chances and Reds nearly snatched a late equaliser when a great shot was half saved by Gilby and Manning cleared off the line.

Scorers: - Dobinson; Locke; Cotton:
Squad:– Connor Gilby, Jordan Bennington, Harry Douglas, Daniel Yolland, George Locke, Tim Dunn, Alex Manning, Charlie Cotton, Tyler Dobinson, Bradley Lippett

Moors Porto 0-1 Pumas

Pumas travelled to Tiverton to play their first League game of 2006 and found themselves playing on a heavily sloping pitch. The boys took their time to settle and a full seven minutes had passed before the Porto keeper needed to make a save. Tyler Dobinson and Bradley Lippett both then had good efforts saved with Alex Manning and Tim Dunn both failing to hit the target when presented with their own chances.

The second half saw the momentum change with Porto attacking straight from the whistle. Connor Gilby showed his talent with three great saves and both Jordan Bennington and Harry Douglas performed heroics in defence. As the half progressed Pumas re-established control and with five minutes remaining Tim Dunn swivelled left and curled a low shot in off the far post. With Charlie Cotton and Daniel Yolland supplying good crosses Lippett and three further chances to add to the score but the Porto keeper kept the score down to one nil.

Scorers: - Dunn:

Kentisbeare 1-2 Pumas

Pumas moved pitch for their second game and found themselves playing on a surface with longer grass and the same big slope. Pumas normal passing game was not suited to this and at first they struggled. However it was still a big shock when the home striker rifled a shot low to Gilby’s left resulting in Kentisbeare taking a sixth minute lead. There then followed an inspired substation by Coach Lippett who brought on Bennington to play wide left. Within a minute Bennington fired a rising drive which the home keeper parried only to see Dobinson follow up to net the rebound.

The second half saw few chances created by either side but the effort remained high It must be said that Kentisbeare demonstrated a very physical approach and this along with the poor pitch stopped Pumas gaining momentum. With a draw seeming inevitable Dobinson found himself in space and  lobbed a pass through to Lippett who drilled a shot hard to the keepers left to score the winning goal with the last kick of the game.

Scorers: - Dobinson; Lippett:
Squad: - Connor Gilby, Jordan Bennington, Harry Douglas, Daniel Yolland, Tim Dunn, Alex Manning, Charlie Cotton, Tyler Dobinson, Bradley Lippett

Pumas 2-0 Heavitee Eagles

With recent games postponed the Pumas were raring to go, having not played for a month. From the start it was clear that the Eagles had no answer to the Pumas fine passing moves with early chances being created at will. Harry Douglas and Jordan Bennington were able to provide attacking support from defence and Connor Gilby in goal  jogged around to keep warm. Tyler Dobinson, full of skill and running, provided the assist for the first goal, a left foot drive from Bradley Lippett. Surprisingly this was the only goal of the half  thanks mainly to the Eagles keeper’s string of great saves.

Pumas midfield continued it’s domination after the break but again the away keeper kept them at bay. George Locke and Tim Dunn both had chances and but it was left to Dobinson to score the second assisted by Lippett . Despite sending Alex Manning and Douglas both into the box, from defence for corners, no more goals were scored.

Blues Pumas 6-1 Heavitree Hawks

Despite conceding six goals in the match the man of the match was the Hawks keeper who pulled of string of impressive saves against a Pumas side playing at the top of there game. Dobinson, taking the forward role for the first half, scored twice, firstly assisted by Locke and then from a super pass from keeper Gilby. Restored to his familiar left midfield role Manning probably had most reason to rue the Hawk’s keeper’s fine form which included a point blank save from his left foot volley and a tip over from a brave header.

Lippett returned for the second half to lead the line and provided the assist for a well hit Tim Dunn drive to make it three. However, a loss of concentration by the Pumas back line allowed the Eagles striker to chip keeper Gilby  to narrow the score. Charlie Cotton then bagged a brace in quick succession assisted by Manning and Locke. The sixth and final goal was provided by Lippett. With this being the last League game of the year all the Pumas boys can look back with pride on a nine game unbeaten start to the season.

Squad;- Connor Gilby, Jordan Bennington, Harry Douglas, Tim Dunn, Alex Manning, George Locke, Charlie Cotton, Tyler Dobinson, Bradley Lippett

Feniton 0-6 Pumas

A resurgent Pumas side continued their recent impressive form demolishing a plucky Feniton team. Great chances were created right from the start but a mixture of bad luck, some good goalkeeping and some poor finishing kept the score line blank. Feniton’s luck surely could not last and so it proved as Bradley Lippett  slotted home a rebound from a post. Charlie Cotton twice hit the woodwork before Tim Dunn and then Lippett with his second made the half time score 0-3.

The second half play followed in the same fashion with another three goals added. Firstly Alex Manning skipped past two defenders before unleashing an unstoppable shot then Dunn added his second from a Harry Douglas corner and Daniel Yolland fired home from a Manning cross. Connor Gilby in goal had a quiet game with Jordan Bennington and Douglas standing firm in defence.

 Broadclyst 2-3 Pumas

Broadclyst provided a much sterner test for the Pumas second match of the day. Helped by a sloping pitch and a goalkeeper whose kicks always reached the Pumas penalty box Bennington and Douglas had their work cut out to keep the home side out. Early on the best chance fell to Broadclyst  but courageous goalkeeping by Gilby and a wonderfull goal line clearance by Bennington kept the Pumas goal intact. As the half progressed Pumas midfield took control and a good passing movement ended with Dunn firing a low drive past the Broadclyst keeper. A second followed before half time  with Yolland scoring with an assist by Lippett.

If the Pumas thought playing down the slope would mean an easy second half  the first minute let them know it would not. A superb right foot shot from distance by the Broadclyst striker reduced their arrears and it was game on. A frenetic period followed with Pumas creating a number of chances. With five minutes remaining a Manning  corner landed at the feet of Cotton who drove the ball into the net to give the Pumas back their two goal cushion. At this point Yolland had to leave the pitch feeling unwell and with Lippett leaving at half time the Pumas played with only six players. Yolland bravely returned for the final minute but was unable to prevent another super distance strike by Broadclyst  with the last kick of the game.

 Countess Wear Dynamo 0-8 Pumas

The Pumas roared back to top form this week with a comprehensive defeat over a plucky Dynamos’ side. It was evident early on that the Pumas had found their passing game and as a result the goals flowed. Firstly Tim Dunn drove a shot low past the keeper followed soon after by a rising drive from the edge of the box from Harry Douglas. Bradley Lippett added number three and George Locke headed the 4th just before half time.

The second half continued in the same fashion with Locke adding his second and Alex Manning rifling a left foot drive to score his first for the season. Goal seven and eight both came from flowing passing move’s firstly from Tyler Dobinson and then Jordan Bennington. Dynamos created their best chance right at the end but Connor Gilby saved well with his legs.

Exeter South 0–6 Pumas

Pumas scored three in the first five minutes with a brace for Dobinson and one for Lippett . Exeter South regrouped and defended well and despite chances for Charlie Cotton and others half time saw the Pumas lead by three.

Bradley Lippett bagged a brace after half time to hit the Pumas first hat trick of the season and the strong running Cotton created the opening for Locke to tap in number six. More chances were created with flowing movements but the team left the pitch happy with the days efforts.

Pumas 2-2 Exwick Youth

With October drawing to a close the Pumas started only their third match of the season at Home to a spirited Exwick side. During the early stages, Exwick showed more attacking flair and the  home side had Connor Gilby in goal to thank for keeping the score blank. Tim Dunn came closest to scoring for the Pumas but it fell to George Locke to score the first goal. Exwick renewed their attacking and equalised soon after only for Locke to score second to leave the Pumas with a fortunate half time lead.

Second half saw the Pumas begin to create better chances with Jordan Bennington, Harry Douglas and Locke all hitting the woodwork. Alex Manning and Tyler Dobinson had chances as well but a killer goal was elusive. Then with minutes remaining Daniel Yolland was adjudged to have handled in the box and the Exwick forward drove the penalty wide of Gilby. Pumas tried hard to find a winner but despite Bradley Lippett and Charlie Cotton’s best efforts a draw was the final outcome

Alphington Spears 0-5 Pumas

Torrential rain greeted both sets of players onto the the pitch as a the Pumas played their first game of the new season. The summer break had seen two players leave the squad and three added. Quality passing was difficult in the wet conditions as both teams strove for the opening goal.Last years player of the season George Locke opened the scoring with a tap in and moments later Bradley Lippett made it two with a well hit shot.

Pumas continued to dominate in the second half with goals from Charlie Cotton and Tim Dunn on their respective debuts along with a second for Locke. Tyler Dobinson and Alex Manning worked hard down the flanks with Daniel Yolland also playing well on his debut. Pumas defence was rarely troubled with Jordan Bennington and Harry Douglas, the latter impressing with his surging forward runs, protecting Connor Gilby in the Pumas goal.

Alphington Arrows 0-1 Pumas

The second game of the day was a much closer affair with both teams creating early chances. The weather conditions made defending and goalkeeping hazardous and Connor Gilby did well to save on a number of occasions. The only goal of the game arrived towards the end of the first half with Tyler Dobinson striking a low drive past the Arrows keeper.

In a tight second half the Arrows had two goals disallowed and Gilby flung himself high to his right to make an excellent save but the Pumas could have added to their score also. The whole squad will be pleased to have finally played together and are looking forward to another successful season.

Exeter City 0-3 Brixington

© Simon Denny

An invitation to Exeters St James Park for Brixington U10s to play Exeter Citys school of Excellence U10s was duly accepted.  Four of the Brixington squad are currently at Exeter , Seb Jones, Jacob Tinsley, Aarron Denny who played for their local side and Connor Gilby in goal for City.

Exeter City started the brighter putting Brixington keeper Alex Yolland under pressure right from the start, defenders Bennington and Tinsley had to be alert with City pushing forward.  Jones, working tirelessly in the middle, created an opening for Denny to send a 30 yard ball to Toomey to rifle a left foot volley past the City keeper.  With solid performances by Gilhooly and Evans Brixington looked more comfortable passing the ball around and were unlucky not to score as the City goalkeeper four good saves.  Wright, playing up front, followed in a shot by Denny making the score 2 -0, this was followed up by a third with Tinsley and Jones winning the ball and sending Denny away to fire home an unstoppable shot.

Man of the match, for his tireless running, Jacob Tinsley.
