Dynamos 2-0 Westexe Rangers

Outstanding performance ends season for the Dynamos

The Brixington boys have had a fantastic first season in the under 11’s Sainsbury’s Friendly League.  In this their last game they were a credit to their selves and their club with the whole team putting in a first rate performance.  The visiting Rangers were left gasping for air in the first 4 minutes as the Dynamos out jumped, out paced and out played them, winning all the possession and culminating with an inch perfect free kick from the skipper Luke Iddon, finding the pacy Jack Stott who ghosted past the visiting keeper to slot home goal number 1.  The visitors dug out a hard fought performance for the remainder of the half but they just could not contain the marauding Dynamos.  Harry Nolan gave an aggressive performance wide right showing his pace, desire and eye for goal testing the keeper and striking the woodwork in both halves.  Shaun Hepburn waited until the last game of the season to play his best ever game competing and winning most of the 50/50 balls in the middle of the park.  Lewis White gave a fine performance showing a good first touch linking defence to attack.  Keeper Oli Howard gave a focused performance pulling off a spectacular save towards the end o the first half. Oli was replaced in the second half by Aiden McLean who ensured a clean sheet for the Dynamos.

Introducing Keiron Cox for the second half the Dynamos continued to dominate the game showing good composure excellent passing and creative approach play against a good team who were giving their all to contain the home team.  In the 4th minute the Dynamos pressing game forced an error from the visiting defenders and predator Charlie Williams intercepted the loose ball with a first touch strike, the net bulged and the ball nestled in the bottom left corner.  Ben Wilks gave a comfortable performance in midfield and the rock solid Jake Evans was once again rock solid at left back with the right back Ben Hawley containing the flank.  The talismanic captain Luke Iddon completed the trio in the sweeper role giving a great sense of reassurance to the whole team.

On the day the game was an absolute thriller going end to end at times.  The Dynamos could and should have scored more goals with the forward players striking the uprights and cross bar a half dozen times.  The visiting Ranges will also be disappointed not to have scored at least once or twice.  Brixington dynamos deserved their win and will remember their very first U11’s 9-a-side season as a resounding success.  The Dynamos will be back next season for 11-a-side football.

Dynamos 6-0 Twyford Roma

Dynamos in goal Spree

A brace a piece for Charlie Williams and Jack Stott with Harry Nolan and Billy Warren also finding the back of the net.  The Brixington boys romped home against the struggling visitors, Twyford never really threatened the home side.  The Dynamos might easily have hit double figures had they remembered to play football, but strike at all cost was the order of the day with players intent on raising their goal tally.

Dynamos Deuced

Despite the score the Brixington boys gave a good account of themselves.  The first half was eagerly contested by both teams but the Dynamos forced the majority of play into the visitors half.  Just seconds before the half time whistle Ottery lobbed a high ball from 20yds which literally dropped out of the blue inch perfect behind keeper Oli Howard aka Ronaldinho/Seaman.  The visitors rejoiced, the half ended 1 – 0.

The second half mirrored the first, the Dynamos attacked, Ottery countered for 25 mins, the game was end to end.  Up front for the Dynamos Jack Stott worked tirelessly running at defenders creating problems for the Ottery defence.  At the back Luke Iddon had another barnstorming game turning defence into offence and marshalling the rock sold Jake Evans and burley Ben Hawley into a tight trio.  In the last 5 mins the Dynamos raided continuously, forcing 3 corner kicks but were unable to finish with any conviction.  In the last 10 seconds Ottery cleared their lines only to find the Dynamos caught high up the field offering little defence.  Out numbering the home team, the deadly counter sealed the game 2 – 0 to the visitors in the last seconds of play.

The game was thoroughly enjoyable and a credit to both teams.  Arguably the visitors had the ‘rub of the green’, the Dynamos need to improve their finishing.  Man of the match honours were shared between Jack Stott and captain Luke Iddon.

Dynamos 4-0 Stoke Hill

Clean Sheet for the Dynamos

The first half saw the Dynamos much the stronger team, winning the lion’s share of possession but unable to cut through the visitors defence as they retreated in numbers packing the final third each time the Dynamos raided.  It took until the 22nd minute for Jack Stott to open the scoring for the home team after Man of the Match Luke Iddon dispossessed the visiting strike force turning defence into offence as the Dynamos counter attacked.  The half ended 1 – 0.

Frustrated with a slender lead, the Dynamos came out for the second half committed to attack.  Like Iddon put goal number 2 away after the visiting keeper parried a Charlie Williams strike.  After the 4th corner in 5 minutes Harry Nolan volleyed home goal number 3 giving the keeper no chance.  Towards the middle of the half the visitors gained some momentum in the middle of the park but staunch defending from Leo Jones and the impassable Jake Evans denied them even a strike on goal.  Charlie Williams sealed the victory on the 23rd minute with goal number 4.

On the day the game was no great spectacle to watch but the Dynamos ran out well deserved winners.

Charlie’s chip wins the game

The Dynamos enjoyed their home fixture on a sunny winter’s morning with a lush pitch to boot.  The visiting Saints battled well in the first half but hard work and determination from the Dynamos gave them the edge.  After testing the Saints keeper several times, in the 22nd minute Shaun Hepburn latched on to a Charlie Williams cross, the visiting keeper parried and predator Jack Stott was on hand for the tap in, the half ended 1 – 0.

The second half saw the Saints come out fighting and their hard work paid off with the equaliser in the 6th minute.  The Dynamos responded upping their work rate several levels and man of the match Harry Nolan carried the fight to Saints covering every blade of grass and linking mid field to attack.  The home team displayed some wonderful approach play with their one and two touch passing.  At the three quarter stage the Saints were now chasing the game and starting to look ragged.  Williams received a through ball just inside the area, raised the ball with his first touch and with a deft second touch chipped the tall Saints keeper to score the winner.  The Dynamos continued to dominate but for the last 5 minutes in which the Saints had an incredible four corners in a row, testing the Dynamos defence till the last second of the game.

On the day the game was exciting and enjoyable with the Dynamos deserving their win.

Dynamos 0-1 Pinhoe A

Dynamos duel in the mud

Playing ankle deep in mud with a biting wind both teams had to battle against the elements as well as each other.  The conditions made for a physical gruelling contest with little room for polished football.  The first half saw the Dynamos kicking into the wind with both teams battling hard and contesting every ball.  There were chances at both ends and for the home team the defensive trio of Luke Iddon, Jake Evans and Ben Hawley were solid as a rock and almost impassable.  The half ended 0 – 0.  With the wind in favour of the Dynamos for the second period, the home team carried the fight to the visiting Spartans keeping most of the play in the visitors half winning most of the loose balls but struggling to create clear chances and test the Pinhoe keeper.  In the 45th minute the Spartans counter attacked with the Dynamos defence caught too high up the pitch, defenders Evans and Hawley faced a 3v2 attack and were unable to deal with the extra man.  Keeper Oli Howard parried a well struck shot but the extra man for the Spartans was on hand to tap in.  After the re-start the Dynamos again began to dominate with Charlie Williams, Harry Nolan and Jack Stott all having attempts on goal but not really troubling the Spartan keeper.

The game ended 1 – 0 to the Spartans but on the day the Dynamos deserved at least a half share of the spoils.

West Hill 3-1 Dynamos

Dynamos Stung by Wasps

With top goal scorers Jack Stott and Charlie Williams both recovering from a week long illness, together with missing regulars Ben Wilks, Leo Jones and James Hannam, the Dynamos were facing an up hill battle against a quality side with good passing ability.

The first half saw the Wasps dominate midfield possession as the Dynamos allowed them far too much time on the ball.  Defenders Ben Hawley, Luke Iddon and man of the match Jake Evans took the brunt of a slack midfield performance.  Keeper Oli Howard struggled to hold a difficult ball and the Wasps stung in the 2nd minute.  The Dynamos conceded their second goal in the 11th  minute from a well taken corner as the West Hill striker connected on to a bullet header giving the keeper no chance.  After some strong words during the break the visitors rolled up their sleeves and gave much better performances working hard on closing down and denying space to the Wasps.  The hard work paid off and within 10 minutes the Dynamos were on the ascendancy dispatching wave after wave of attacks, twice hitting the uprights and cross bar, firing numerous shots just off target and testing the West Hill keeper who just happened to be in phenomenal form.  Struggling to regain fitness, striker Charlie Williams alone had a hat full of chances.

Against the run of play with too many players committed forward the Dynamos conceded again in the 23rd minute but undaunted the visitors went straight back into attack mode and the unusually quiet Jack Stott latched on to a through ball, accelerated and drilled home the only goal for the Dynamos.

On the day West Hill ran out worthy winners but the battling Dynamos gave a good chase but didn’t get the ‘rub of the green’ in this thoroughly entertaining game.

Dynamos 4-0 Pinhoe Spitfires

Dynamos in 4–0 Cruise

Only the skipper Luke Iddon and birthday boy Leo Jones played a full game in this fixture as the Dynamos rotated their 16 strong squad.  The first 10 mins saw both teams battle for midfield possession with the Dynamos gradually forcing errors from the visitors.  Kieron Cox struck the post and Shaun Hepburn was on hand to tap in goal number 1 in the 16th minute.  Busy boy Kieron Cox was on hand again in the 20th minute to muscle through the Pinhoe defence and blast home goal number 2.  The half ended with the Dynamos in complete control.

Five changes were made in the break and striker Jack Stott tucked away goal number 3 with his first touch of the game in the 2nd minute.  Kieron Cox scored the 4th and final goal in the 8th minute from a surging midfield run.  The Dynamos were now in cruise mode totally dominating the play forcing the visitors to play most of their team behind the ball for the remainder of the game.

The result was a comfortable win for the Dynamos who played the second half well within their comfort zone.

  West Exe Athletic 6-2 Dynamos

Dynamos go down with a fight

Despite the score the Dynamos gave a good performance against undoubtedly the best of all the 24 teams in the Sainsburys Friendly League.  The home team featured an array of Exeter City school of excellence players and doubtless the cream of the crop from the city generally.  The first half ended 2-0 to Athletic but the Dynamos were not without their chances creating several goal opportunities but just not getting the ‘rub of the green’ or the benefit of the doubt from the typical home town referee allowing no less than 3 hand balls to go un penalised for the home team.

The second half saw the visitors battle for goals with little thought for damage limitation.  The game became stretched and the Dynamos slow with their recovery runs were punished with two further goals in the first 10 mins.  Now playing for pride the visitors raised their game and Jack Stott scored a wonderful goal ghosting past the Athletic defence slotting the ball low and hard into the corner giving the abnormally huge keeper no chance.  Confidence come flooding back to the visitors and for the remaining 20 mins or so the Dynamos gave a great performance battling and tackling hard against the slick well drilled Athletic.  The home team scored again but the visitors quickly followed with a sustained attack, Stott forced a great save from their colossal keeper and Kieron Cox blasted the ball home.  The end to end game continued to the final whistle with the home team having the last say.

On the day the home team were ‘a bridge too far’ for the desperate Dynamos but the visitors still managed to put 2 goals past a team that until now had only conceded 4 in 12 games, with no other team managing 2.  The Dynamos continue to progress at a rate of knots and look forward to next seasons encounter with Athletic.

A Dozen for the Dynamos

The visitors had their best spell in the first 15 mins containing the Dynamos but had little to offer in the form of attack.  Kieron Cox opened the scoring for the Dynamos followed by Shaun Hepburn who scored a hatrick in side of 3 mins.  Cox took his second before the half time whistle ending the half 5 – 0.

The second half began with Jim Hannam, Harry Nolan, Charlie Williams, Jack  Stott and Aiden McLean on for Keiron Cox, Shaun Hepburn, Billy Warren, James Helman and Oli Howard.  Williams opened the scoring within seconds and went on to claim his hatrick.  Jack Stott and Ben Wilks both scored two a piece before the final whistle.  Doubtless the visitors will not look forward to meeting Brixington Dynamos again.

Dynamos 3-2 Heavitree
(Friendly)

Dynamos make a 3 goal come back

After losing 3-2 to Heavitree back in October the Dynamos invited Heavitree to an 11 a-side friendly with full sized goals, pitch and full on rules to boot.  Both teams with large squads agreed to feature all their players.  From the kick off the Dynamos condensed the game by squeezing up with a high line defence.  This worked well and kept play in the visitors half for most of the first period.  Unfortunately the Dynamos were unable to capitalise on half a dozen chances and were caught out when the visitors broke midway through the half with a deadly counter attacking goal.  The second half for both teams featured more regular players and again the Dynamos squeezed the game but were again caught on the break by the marauding visitors who by now were playing the better football.  Determined to master the high line defence the Dynamos stuck to their game plan frustrating the visiting strike force and in the 40th min Luke Iddon anticipated and intercepted a loose ball then with a very cool head launched a 20 yard curling ball into the top corner of the net.  This was to be the turning point in the game.  The visitors were stunned with the strike and the Dynamos raised their game several levels and started to play with renewed vigour.  5 mins on Charlie Williams muscled his way through a deep Heavitree defence and 1 v 1 with the keeper, Williams unfazed slotted home.  The game now equally poised at 2-2 developed into attack and counter attack.  Man of the match Luke Iddon had a barnstorming game sweeping up most of the loose balls, marshalling his back line and turning defence into counter attack.  With 5 mins to go Williams again muscled through the visitors defence and let loose an unstoppable exorcet missile from wide right.  The net bulged and the Dynamos were jubilant.  The remaining 5 mins saw the Dynamos tested to the metal as the visitors threw everything into attack winning two corners and testing the keeper twice.  On the day the game could have gone either way and was played in good spirits with a lot of mutual respect and a big learning curve for the beautiful game.

Dynamos 4-0 Feniton

Dynamos cruise to a 4 – 0 victory

The Dynamos played 14 players from their 16 strong squad and cruised to an easy victory over the visiting Feniton team.  Dynamos dominated the game from the kick off and Alex lane’s deflected corner kick opened the scoring and ended the half 1 – 0.  After the re-start it was one way traffic and the visitors were lucky to concede only a further 3 goals.  Man of the match Luke Iddon scored a well placed shot from outside the area and Charlie Williams bagged a brace taking his tally for the season to 11 to date.  Generally the whole squad played well and were a different class to the visitors.

Sidmouth Junior Vikings 0-5 Dynamos

Dynamos end the year on a high

The first half saw both teams battle for mid-field possession with the visitors playing arguably the more creative approach play.  The half ended 0-0.  From the kick off the visitors totally dominated the second half.  Jack Stott opened the scoring in the 2nd minute dribbling through the Sidmouth defence to slot home goal number one.  Defender Ben Hawley scored on 12 minutes resulting from a corner with both teams scrapping for the ball in the Sidmouth box.  The slickest goal of the game came from Jim Hannam’s quality 30 yard diagonal ball from the halfway line to Harry Nolan who drilled the ball square to Charlie Williams on the 6 yard line to slot home number three in the 17th minute.  The Dynamos were now in cruise mode playing with confidence.  Ben Wilks drilled home goal number four on 23 minutes and Alex Lane had the last say with goal number five just before the final whistle.  Amidst all the goals the Dynamos man of the match was the impassable Leo Jones with yet another quality performance.  Luke Iddon and Jake Evans also gave solid performances at the back and keeper Oli Howard dug out a great save to keep a clean sheet.  The jubilant Dynamos enjoyed their well deserved victory and look forward to the new year.

Dynamos 1-2 Crediton Youth

Dynamos in 2–1 thriller

After last weeks desperate performance the Dynamos knew they would have to raise their game for this fixture against arguably the best team in the league and last seasons cup winners.

From the kick off both teams battled for mid-field possession, Jim Hannam gave a determined performance in the centre winning strong challenges and showing his passing ability.  Ben Wilks playing wide right rose to the occasion displaying aggressive approach play.  Six minutes from half time the visitors scored and celebrated rapturously lifting the weight of expectation with the realisation that they were in for a hard battle.  The half ended 1 – 0 to the visitors who shaded the half by the narrowest margin.

The visitors scored within the first few minutes of the second half with an unstoppable 20 yard shot.  Rocked by Crediton’s second goal the Dynamos stepped up a gear and played the remaining twenty five minutes at a level they had not reached before.  Jack Stott made tireless sorties down the left flank showing great skill and close ball control reaping his reward with a 45th minute goal.  Captain Luke Iddon marshalled the hard working defence Ben Hawley, Jake Evans and Leo Jones with Luke himself giving his best team performance to date.  The whole team effort put the visitors on the back foot for most of the second half.  Only the well organised hard working Crediton defence denied the Dynamos a much deserved equaliser.  On the day the Dynamos played with pride and passion and gave a Trojan performance, the result insignificant.

Dynamos 0-4 AC Central

Lackluster performance from the Dynamos

The visitors played with a purpose controlling the ball and the game.  The Dynamos started and ended being controlled by the ball and were left for the most part chasing the game.  The Dynamos were reluctant to come out of their own half and attack with any numbers or conviction.  This was uncharacteristically a negative and deflated performance from a normally positive and focused  Dynamos.  On the day A C Central deserved their victory

Williams Scorers a Hatrick

After six minutes Charlie Williams had already scored his second goal.  The Dynamos totally dominated the first half testing the Broadclyst keeper time after time.  After what seemed like an endless session of corners, Luke Iddon scored in the 21st minute ending the half 3 – 0.

With a good lead and key players absent the Dynamos had the opportunity to shuffle around player positions and try different systems.   Ten minutes into the second half Williams completed his hatrick and was rested for the remainder of the game.  The Dynamos chalked up ten corners in the second half but failed to score again due to an outstanding performance from the visiting keeper.

Heavitree Youth 3-2 Dynamos

Dynamos denied a draw

The Dynamos knew this fixture was going to be a tough one away against one of the leagues top teams.  Unaccustomed to playing on such a small pitch the Dynamos took a little time to settle into the fast pace of the game.  Heavitree capitalised on the Dynamos disjointed performance in the opening minutes scoring a well placed header from a corner kick.  Stung by the early goal the Dynamos raised their game several levels and Stott equalised in the 10th minute with a well executed half volley lobbing the keeper.  The goal was followed by midfielder Alex Lane making his debut for the Dynamos.  The visitors went on to dominate in midfield and for the remainder of the half with striker Charlie Williams slotting goal number 2 past the keeper in the 25th minute.

The second half mirrored the first with the home team having their best spell and seeking to reverse the trend.  The visitors battled on but were penalised by the home team referee countless times with Heavitree winning numerous free kicks.  In the 15th minute Heavitree flighted a long ball into the visitors box, challenging for the ball Harry Nolan was clearly shoved in the back, the home team equalised and the Dynamos appeals fell on deaf ears, even the Heavitree manager acknowledged the foul.  10 minutes from time Heavitree scored the winning goal, the gallant Dynamos fought on and George Gibson-Smith came close to equalising in a 1 v 1 attack on the home team keeper.

On the day Heavitree played some good football and passed the ball well, by contrast the Dynamos gave a more passionate and gritty performance but didn’t get the ‘rub of the green’ or any favourable decisions.  Man of the match honours were split between the debutant Alex Lane in midfield and Kieron Cox for a great performance in goal.

Man of the match Harry Nolan gave a tenacious second half performance and deserved his 57th minute goal.  Leo Jones, Ben Hawley, Shaun Hepburn and James Helman all gave competent and well organised performances in defence.  Aiden M’Clean kept a clean sheet in goal.

DYNAMOS 2-1 BLUES

Dynamos cause a storm in Club Derby

With just five league games under their belt the underdog Dynamos were triumphant over their club counterparts.  Debutant Alex Paltridge put the Dynamos into ascendancy for most of the game with a dogged mid-field performance.  Gibson-Smith, Iddon and Cox also dug deep and came up with fine mid-field performances with the pacy Nolan cutting a swathe through the Blues defence.  Stott bagged a brace with a goal in each half taking his tally to eight in five games.

The visitors were not without their chances and made several counter attacks with their pacy striker testing the Dynamos defence to its limit.  Hawley bossed the hard working defenders Wilks, Evans and Jones each digging out gritty performances.  Centre forward Williams featured at both ends of the field together with Iddon, Cox and McClean who all had a spell in goal when regular keeper Oli Howard phoned in with a broken bone in his foot (get well soon Oli).  The unselfish Luke Iddon gave a memorable performance with some fine saves.  At the other end of the field the visiting keeper also gave a fine performance denying Williams on the break with a fine 1 v 1 keeper charge in the dying moments of the game.

On the day the Dynamos deserved their victory in what turned out to be a passionate and entertaining game.  Man of the match honours were split between Jack Stott and Alex Paltridge.

WILLAND ROVERS 2-1 DYNAMOS

The Dynamos failed to make four wins in a row with a below par performance

The first 20 mins saw the Dynamos chasing the ball and the game as the home team out played and out paced the visitors.  Too easily Willand dominated the central midfield scoring first with a simple pass back unchallenged and driven low giving keeper Oli Howard no chance.  With 10 mins of the half remaining and a re-shuffled midfield the visitors woke up, began to press the game and put Willand on the back foot.

A dressing down at half time and a further re-shuffle saw the visitors dig out some much needed passion.  Midfielder Harry Nolan intercepted a loose ball and out paced the home team with a half pitch run driving the ball in the top corner of the net for a 1-1 equaliser.  Jack Stott made several sorties but was unable to dispatch his well earned penalty.

In the remaining 10 mins the game ebbed and flowed from end to end, the home team scored and deserved their 2-1 victory.  The Dynamos defence of Wilks, Hawley, Jones and Evans all put in a good team performance.  Man of the match honours were split between keeper Oli Howard and Harry Nolan

In the opening minutes the visitors looked sharp, first to the ball and the midfield quartet of Warren, Iddon, Smith and Nolan played some creative approach play.  After several sorties the home team failed to clear their lines and in the 10th minute, Stott slammed home No. 1 for Dynamos.  In response the home team stepped up their game and in the last 15 minutes of the half, played the more competitive football putting the visitors on the backfoot.  The pressure continued in the second half but the visitors also raised their game.  5 minutes in the Dynamos attacked committing their entire midfield.  The Wolves intercepted and counter attacked but the visiting defenders failed to come out conceding half the pitch and the well placed goal that followed from the Wolves pacey striker.

Up beat the Wolves piled on the pressure, Hepburn, Jones, Wilks and Evans in defence were tested to the limit but Man of the Match Oli Howard found his form with a confident display of handling.  Half way through the second half the visitors intercepted and the unusually quiet Stott made a steaming half pitch run culminating in a deadly finish taking the Dynamos 2 -1 up.

McClean replaced Howard in goal and Helman came on to bolster the defence.  The Dynamos had dug deep, shown good character and began to shade the game in the last quarter.  Not content with the Wolves losing, the home team referee found and extra 12 mins from somewhere but to his disappointment the Dynamos scored again courtesy of Gibson-Smith.  The home team now desperate for another goal pushed seven players in to attack.  With both teams in the visitors box, Nolan blasted the ball into touch but amidst the melee in competing for the ball one of the Wolves ended up on the deck.  After a long pause penalty was given and dispatched.  Time was eventually called in the 42nd min.

In all both teams performed well with the Dynamos shading the game by a narrow margin.

BEACON KNIGHTS 0-10 DYNAMOS

Warren bagged a brace and Stott scored a hat-trick as the Dynamos demolished the home team.

Despite the appalling conditions, up beat from last weeks victory the Dynamos dominated from the kick off and began to take apart a willing but unorganised Beacon Knights.  Warren opened the score sheet on 8 mins deflecting Iddons goal bound shot.  Playing with confidence the visitors stepped up the pressure and Stott, Cox and Iddon scored in the 12th, 17th and 21st mins.  Stott continued to cause mayhem and was duly decked in the box.  After dispatching the penalty, Stott completed his hat-trick before the half time whistle.

The Knights had their moments but when called upon Howard performed well in goal and showed good presence.  Wilks in defence read the game well and continually linked up with the mid field.  Nolan made several sorties wide right providing quality crosses, Iddon and Gibson-Smith displayed intelligent approach play and Gibson-Smith was rewarded 10 mins into the second half with goal number 7.  The onslaught continued with Warren, Jenkins and Hepburn scoring in the 16th, 22nd and final minute.  Iddon, Stott and Wilks shared Man of the Match honours.

RED STAR CENTAL  0-3 DYNAMOS

The Dynamos began their campaign with a visit to Central Red Star for this their first ever league game.  From the kick off both teams battled for mid-field possession and 10 minutes into the game the visitors began to stamp their authority playing the more creative football.  Winning the lions share of possession the Dynamos found their rhythm and tested the Central keeper four times before Williams finally unlocked their defence on 27 minutes.  The home team countered several times but were unable to pass man of the match Ben Hawley who consistently popped up then mopped up.  The second half mirrored the first, the Dynamos dominated and the talented Jack Stott struck in the 7th minute.  10 minutes in and Jenkins replaced Williams and sealed the victory with a 15 minute tap in.  Central competed until the final whistle but on the day the visiting Dynamos were deserved winners.

Sidmouth Junior Vikings 2-1 Dynamos

The Dynamos took a sixteen strong squad to Sidmouth for the last of their pre-season friendlies.  The squad divided almost into two teams and the game into thirds, saw the first batch of players convincingly out played by the home team.  The Dynamos failed to string two passes together and their hit and hope tactics put them on the back foot throughout the first third.  Wilks, Jones and Hawley defended well and keeper Howard stayed focused as the home team reigned but somehow struggled to finish.

18 mins in and enter the second battalion, Wilks and Jones remained, Warren, McDonald, Hepburn, Evans, Helman, Jenkins and McLean moved in.  The game steadied into a midfield battle with both teams competing hard but neither team playing quality football.  Jenkins up front had the odd ball poked through to him but lacked support and was unable to finish.  In the 25th min the Vikings attacked in numbers, the Dynamos had several stabs but failed to clear their lines, Sidmouth scored their first deserved goal.  Towards the end of this middle third a long ball put the Vikings number 7, 1v1 in the visitors box.  One dropped shoulder, ‘Matthews Dummy’ split second later, the ball nestled in the visitors net, the finish breathtaking.

25 mins on saw the end of the second third and after some stern words along the lines of ‘pull your finger out, you’re better than this’ the first batch rolled back on, Evans and Jones remaining.  Williams kicked off, Iddon found Gibson Smith who found Nolan lurking wide who put the ball down the channel for Iddon who returned the pass.  Nolan’s threaded ball found Williams who found the wrong side of the post.  This was the first time the Dynamos had strung together a sequence of passes.  Inspired and lifted and as if by magic belief came flooding back and the Dynamos went on to totally dominate this last third.  Man of the match Jack Stott produced some terrific approach play and carved open the Vikings midfield.  Gibson Smith came close on two occasions and Williams will have nightmares seeing posts and cross bars where ever he looks.  All Sidmouth could do was to pack the box with bodies and the Dynamos blasted time and time again.  At this stage the visitors so desperate were trying to walk the ball into the net, then the penny dropped – the lay off came back out to Iddon who drove home the visitors first with a twenty yard shot.  The game ended 2 – 1 and in all fairness did not reflect the overall game, the home team were only in the visitors half once for a few seconds in the last 20 mins - but that’s football.

Man of the match : - Jack  Stott
Scorer:- Luke Iddon

Squad :- Jake Evans, George Gibson-Smith, Ben Hawley, James Hellman, Shaun Hepburn, Oli Howard, Luke Iddon, Will Jenkins, Leo Jones, Luan McDonald,  Aiden McLean, Harry Nolan, Jack Stott, Billy Warren, Ben Wilks, Charlie Williams.

Pinhoe Spartans 2-0 Dynamos

The Dynamos visited Rockbeare for their first away game aware they were taking on one of last season’s top teams.  The Spartans now entering their fourth season soon showed their experience and in general had a more polished look about their game.  The Dynamos worked hard, played with passion and were unfortunate to concede an early O.G.  Dogged defending and a good performance from man of the match Leo Jones contained the home team for most of the game but after a wave of attacks the Dynamos conceded again 14 mins into the second half.  The visitors were not without their chances twice hitting the post, once hitting the cross bar and testing the Spartans keeper several times.  The outcome could have been different but generally the result was a fair reflection of the game.  The visitors played with true grit but the home team showed their experience with a better passing game.

Man of the match;- Jones

Squad: - Kieron Cox, Jake Evans, George Gibson-Smith, James Hellman, Oli Howard, Luke Iddon, Will Jenkins, Leo Jones, Aiden McLean, Harry Nolan, Jack Stott, Billy Warren, Ben Wilks

Dynamos 5-3 Pinhoe Spitfires

Despite the rainy weather spirits were high amongst the Dynamos.  After training hard for more than six weeks they were eager to show the gathering of parents how well they could do in this their first ever game as a team.

For the first six mins the visitors failed to cross the halfway line.  The intense pressure from the home team paid off and Wilks hammered home goal number one on seven mins.  Goal number two came from the best move of the game, Jones intercepted in defence and picked out Gibson-Smith in midfield.  There then followed five one touch passes and Cox stabbed home goal number two.

The visitors had their best spell leading up to half time bringing the score to 2 – 1.  After the break both teams battled, the visitors equalised, then Williams let loose a rocket, the Spitfires keeper parried and Iddon guided home number two.

Man of the match Stott continued to weave his magic creating opportunities, Nolan stretched the visitor’s defence attacking wide.  Resulting from the pressure Jenkins hit the post and just after Cox bagged his second.

The Dynamos continued to work hard and after several attempts on goal Williams drilled home number five.  The opposition were worthy opponents but the score was a fair reflection of the game.  Gibson-Smith marshalled the team to a well won victory, Jones, Evans, Hellman and Hawley defended well, Warren and Hepburn were strong in midfield.  Keepers Howard and McLean gave a sound first game performance.

Scorers: – Cox 2, Iddon, Wilks, Williams

Man of the match – Stott

Squad:– Kieron Cox, Jake Evans, George Gibson-Smith, Ben Hawley, James Hellman, Shaun Hepburn, Oli Howard, Luke Iddon, Will Jenkins, Leo Jones, Aiden McLean, Harry Nolan, Jack Stott, Billy Warren, Ben Wilks
