Reds 3-2 Real Braodclyst

Brixington Reds returned to action against an improved Real Broadclyst this week in pursuit of the one point required to clinch runners up spot in the league.

The game started with the match flowing from end to end with Broadclyst edging possession for the first ten minutes.  Reds started to get their game together and soon had several chances which they normal convert but the killer touch was not to be found until a strong run by Jordon Price resulted in a good cross, Jacob Argent collected the ball and swept past the defence opened the scoring with a clinical finish.  Broadclyst continued to pressure but keeper Hugh Cort was well defended by Chris Stirling, Tom Smith, Luke Pollard and Sean Mabin who all worked hard as a unit to nullify the Broadclyst attack.  Reds Keeper Hugh Cort gave a free kick in a dangerous position.  The resulting free kick bounced under the wall and Reds were left flat footed as Broadclyst equalised.  Reds started to exert themselves on the match and Joshua Collinson gave Argent plenty of scoring opportunities but it wasn’t going to be his day.  Alex Raistrick won the ball strongly in midfield and feed Collinson, a neat flick found Jamie Alford unmarked in the six yard box, his quick control and shot beat the keeper and put Reds back in front.  Broadclyst continued to battle and soon had the ball deep in the Reds half, a quick throw in found Broadclyst free and smashing home the equaliser.

Brixington Reds pilled on the pressure and won several corners, Stirling sent two headers close before being replaced by Hanson and Raistrick along with Argent shot just wide before another cross from Price after a strong run was met by Raistrick who slotted home the winner.  Broadclyst kept battling away but Reds were not to be denied as the game ended 3-2 to Brixington.

A good solid performance when required.  Brixington’s end of season run has seen them consolidate 2nd spot with some great team football.

Reds 2-1 Exwick

With no subs and team Captain Alex Raistrick training for the Ten Torrs, it was another tough weekend for the Reds as they meet league leaders Exwick who had beaten them 9-2 in their first league fixture.

With a well rehearsed game plan Reds started the brighter and soon had Exwick fighting a rear guard action just to keep in touch.  Jacob Argent, Dan Johnson and Josh Collinson all had opportunity to open the score until the Exwick keeper handled outside the box when Collinson was clear and Exwick were reduced to ten men. Jamie Alford positioned the ball 22 yds out but left it to Collinson who drilled the ball home to take the lead.  From the restart Exwick woke up and started to play some good football, they created several chances but were let down by the final ball and some heroic defending by Luke Pollard, Chris Stirling, Tom Smith, Sean Mabin and keeper Hugh Cort, who had a particularly great game.

Reds defended with real passion and the midfield of Alford, Johnson, Hanson, Argent and Jordan Price ensured the score was 1-0 at half time.

The second half found Reds defending in a well drilled pattern and Collinson providing the outlet with the hard working midfield covering vast amounts of ground to support.  With Reds Keeper Cort being kept busy and producing a couple of first class saves it wasn’t long before he was beaten after some neat play finally unlocking the Reds defence.  The concerted effort from Exwick to get back into the game started to show as their passing started to become a little erratic, Reds kept working hard and after a clearance from Pollard was collected by Collinson, Johnson over lapped and raced up the left wing, his cross was meet by defender/goalkeeper and Hanson on the edge of the box and as the ball broke free Collinson snapped it up drifted past his marker and smashed the ball home for a 2-1 lead.

With Exwick committing more men forward Reds went close a couple of more times before the whistle went and they had won 2-1.

A thrilling encounter which had 2nd place beat 1st and loosing their 100% winning streak.  This was a perfect example of playing a structured rehearsed system with a massive amount of heart and determination. Reds were a credit to themselves and each other and can be proud of their development as individuals and a team.

West Exe 10-2 Reds

Brixington Reds crashed out of the cup this week as West Exe Athletic took full advantage of a weakened Reds team.

Reds had 6 first choice players unavailable and had to reconfigure just to put a side on the park and for the first 10 minutes matched West Exe and came close to opening the score when Jamie Alford received the ball from Alex Rastrick 30 yards out.  Alford shoot early seeing the keeper poorly position and beat only to be denied by the cross bar.  West Exe started to press and where finding room as Reds fought to stay in touch a neat ball had West Exe opening their account.  Reds kept going and a good run by Lee Wakadia finished with an awkward cross, Jacob Argent put the keeper under pressure and a poor punch clearance was stroked into the top corner for the equaliser by Jack Penzer.  Reds fought valiantly but West Exe where soon attacking at will and only some great defensive work from Luke Pollard, Chris Stirling, Sean Mabin and Marcus Hull matched by Keeper Hugh Cort kept the score to 3-1 at half time.

The second half had West Exe play a more patient game and Reds started to tire, Argent won a penalty after another strong run and Pollard calmly placed the ball home for Reds second.  However it was only a concelation as West Exe scored another seven to run out comfortable 10-2 winners.

Reds never let their heads drop but West Exe used their experience well to pull the Weakened Reds apart.

Reds 1-0 West Hill Wasps

Brixington Reds had already beaten West Hill Wasps earlier in the season for the first time ever and West Hill needed to get revenge as second spot hangs in the balance.

The pitch held up well as an entertaining first half got underway, the game flowed from end to end as both sides tried to gain the advantage.  West Hill came closest  early on as a long range effort looked to be heading into the Reds net, but Hugh Cort pulled of a remarkable one handed save to thwart them.  West Hill created some great openings but there final ball was poor and Luke Pollard ensured Sean Mabin Chris Stirling and Tom Smith intercepted the ball before it reached the danger zone.  The hard working Alex Raistrick and Jamie Alford matched the West Hill 5 man midfield and covered a tremendous amount of ground, they constantly looked to play in Tom Pridham and Dan Johnson on the flanks, who’s constant battling ensured Jacob Argent had several one on one chances but the final touch that would see him clear on goal was not found.  Joshua Collinson only managed 10 mins before being replaced due to illness and Reds reconfigured with Hansen playing alongside Pollard and Stirling moving to right back, Smith pushed on to right Midfield and Pridham joined Argent as striker.  The game continued to ebb back and forth but the final ball for West Hill and the final touch for Reds meant the first half ended 0-0.

West Hill started the second half brightest, but still couldn’t find the final ball and within 5 minutes Reds moved up a gear and started to push West Hill back. Some great play by Johnson and Smith down both flanks had West Hill thanking the rushed finishing by Reds as several great chances went begging.  West hill only managed sporadic sorties forward as Reds contained them deep in there own half.  It was from a Stirling intercept and early ball forward to Smith that had the latter heading to Raistrick who burst through the West Hill defence and drove in a great shot, the parried save was met by Johnson who blasted the ball into the corner for 1-0.  With 20 minutes still left Reds continued to push forward and where unlucky not to double the score.  West Hill tired and Reds kept good shape and supported each other well to keep up the pressure.  The final whistle blew and Reds had completed the double and ensured they would be 3 points clear of West Hill even with West Hill winning their games in hand.

This was the performance of the season from the Reds, every player battled hard for each other and they concentrated till the final whistle.  Just a little more composure in front of goal would have made it perfect.

Newton St Cyres 0-10 Reds

The second meeting of the season had Newton St Cyst coming of some improved results and the Reds having not played for a couple of weeks.  Both teams found the icy conditions difficult to cope with and it took 10 mins for the match to settle into any real rhythm.  It was Sean Mabin that started the rout that followed when he intercepted a Newton attack.  He played an early ball into Joshua Collinson who flicked a ball through for Jacob Argent who out muscled three defenders to finish smartly for the opener.  Luke Pollard marshalled the Reds defence of  Mabin, Tom Smith and Chris Stirling to ensure keeper Hugh Cort had a less than a busy day, his forays forward caused Newton problems and within moments of the restart Pollard strode forward and played in the industrious Dan Johnson who skipped past his marker and fired in a great cross, Newton clearance only found Collinson 25 yds out and an accurate half volley flew into the top corner for the second and pick of the goals even Newton supporters applauded the finish. Mabin again calmly intercepted a Newton attack and his early ball found Johnson who outpaced his marker and calmly found the bottom corner for 3-0.  The hard working Reds midfield of Jamie Alford, Alex Raistrick, Lee Wakadia and Johnson started to find more space and supported defence and attack in a tireless pursuit of the ball.  After Tom Smith won the ball deep in his own half a neat ball to Collinson was quickly played to Argent who raced free to finish for 4-0 at half time.

The second half followed the same routine with the Reds completely dominating all areas of the field.  Wakadia broke forward several times and his footwork had Newton players slipping over in his wake as he played in Alford, his clever switch play to Mabin released him past his marker and feeding Johnson forward whose cross was meet by Argent who turned his man easily and scored his third to make it 5-0. Smith and Wakadia were replaced by Tom Pridham and Ross Hansen and Reds kept pressing.  Another Mabin interception and early ball had Johnson crossing to Collinson a neat flick to the back post was stroked home by Raistrick for 6-0.  Pridham started finding space down the right and exploited this with some quick two touch football. From the restart Argent and Collinson won the ball back and found Pridham in space first two touch with Raistrick and then Collinson had the latter finishing for 7-0.  Again the Reds won the ball from the restart and Pridham raced down field and sent in a great cross which Collinson buried for his third and 8-0.  Pollard started to find space in his forays forward and went close from several well delivered corners from Alford as did Stirling with a smart header and volley. Pollard again sent Pridham racing forward and his lofted cross was well struck by Johnson, the keeper only managing to push it to the advancing Argent who finished well for 9-0.  The last was another Alford special as he found room some 25 yds out his long range shot flew over the keeper hit the cross bar and then bounced of the keeper for 10-0, unfortunate for the Newton keeper but reward for Alfords work rate. Reds worked hard to keep their shape and this paid of in handfuls as they totally outplayed Newton who never stopped battling.  Reds deserve praise for their well disciplined performance.

Reds 8-0 Kenn Utd

Having played Kenn twice already this season winning both fixtures, Reds where looking to bounce back from last weeks draw and did so in style.

Reds started the quickest and soon settled into there game, their movement and accurate distribution had Kenn struggling to contain them.  Luke Pollard marshalled the Reds defence of Tom Smith, Ross Hansen and Sean Mabin ensuring keeper Hugh Cort was left with very little to do all match.  It was Mabin who sent the hard working Dan Johnson free with a lovely early ball and his drilled cross was turned in by the under pressure Kenn defence for the opener.  Within minutes of the restart Pollard intercepted a Kenn attack and found Mabin in space, two touches sent Johnson past the Kenn back four and another low cross was smartly finished by Joshua Collinson to double the score.  The industrious midfield of Alex Raistrik and Jamie Alford completely dominated the centre of the park and the latter soon had Jordan Price racing into space and his accurate cross won a corner.  Alford sent in an excellent corner ball and Jacob Argent headed home for the third.  Reds continued to force the play and several players went close to adding to the score.  It was another strong run and Lob by Johnson that created the fourth when Argent ensured the ball crossed the line for his second.  It was Johnson again who raced past his marker and whipped in a great ball which was swept home by Price who scored his first of the season and Reds fifth.  The sixth came after Argent and Collinson linked well with the latter beating the keeper but hitting the post, the rebounded ball straight went to Johnson who made no mistake smashing the ball home for a well deserved goal.

The second half proved Reds have continued to develop with a strong well drilled performance.  Darren Caplin replaced Price after 20 minutes.  The Reds defence proved to well drilled for Kenn’s strikers and played with confidence even under pressure, they quickly controlled and then distributed the ball never reverting to the long ball game and therefore controlling play and the game for long periods.  With several players going close on several occasions, it took until the last 15 minutes after another great run and cross by Johnson for Collinson to score the seventh.  From the restart Hansen won the ball and charged forward and played in Alford an early shot was parried by the keeper and Johnson gratefully scored his second and the Reds finished winning 8-0.

With Pollard controlling the defence Reds looked better balanced and Alford and Raistrick supplying the engine room to feed Price and Johnson combined with the pace and strength of Argent and Collinson the Reds looked impressive and must know duplicate this performance to finish the season strongly.

Scorers: - Argent 2; Collinson 2; Johnson 2; Price 1:

 Reds 2-2 Culm United

Brixington started quickly in this fixture and soon had Culm under pressure.  With injuries to their striker and sick defenders Reds had to rejig with Jacob Argent starting at the back and Tom Pridham linking up front with Jamie Alford and Tom Smith starting at right back.  The new formation jelled quickly and it took Dan Johnson 3 minutes to calmly open the scorer after a neat through ball from Ross Hansen.  The Reds continued to press and after several  Jamie Alford corners Luke Pollard headed home to double the score.   The hard working Price had to be replaced by Jack Penzer and Alex Raistrik, Pollard, Smith and Pridham all went close but couldn’t increase the lead and the half finished 2-0.

The second half followed the same pattern with Reds controlling large parts of the game but failing to finish any of their chances.  It was Culm that found the net when a Culm striker ghosted past three players before beating Hugh Cort.  Reds continued to play the better football but where denied by the post/crossbar and some poor finishing and Culm started to believe they could get the equaliser.  After the referee waved play on when 6 Culm players where flaged off side the resultant shot was spilled by Cort and the score was levelled with 15 minutes to go.   Straight from the restart Reds camped in the Culm penalty box.  Yet again the crossbar and post played there part until Argent found the net only for the game to be stopped after scoring for an injured player.  Culm didn’t get back out of their box and Reds couldn’t find the back of the net. The game finished 2-2 and Reds grip on 2nd spot was gone.  When the Reds dominate a game so completely and create so many chances they have to finish at least a third to ensure teams cannot creep back and snatch a share of the spoils.

Reds 5-1 Sidmouth Vikings Youth

Brixington Reds raced out of the blocks in this return fixture still ruing the missed chances from the first encounter that allowed Sidmouth Vikings to snatch a draw at the death in the first game.  The early pressure had Brixington finding holes in the Sidmouth defence and on two minutes Luke Pollard comfortably stopped a Sidmouth attack and found Alex Raistrick who turned his marker and played the early ball to Joshua Collinson stepping off his marker Collinson released Jacob Argent, who sprinted clear and neatly sidestepped Sidmouth Keeper Tom Chaplin and opened the score with a side foot into an open net. Brixington won the ball back from the restart  and Jordan Price raced down the right flank and delivered a pin point cross meet by Collinson who made Chaplin stretch to prevent a second.  The game settled down and Brixington attacked at will making Sidmouth rearrange their team to deal with the Brixington game.  Pollard ensured Sean Mabin, Tom Smith and Chris Stirling gave Reds Keeper Hugh Cort maximum cover and nullified the Sidmouth attack in the first half.  Reds Captain Raistrick marshalled Jamie Alford, Dan Johnson and Price and they enjoyed lots of ball that they used to great effect supplying strike partners Collinson and Argent.  Smith who excelled all match won a throw which Price used to release Argent who raced down the flank and a drilled cross was meet on the half volley by Collinson to double the score.   Johnson/Raistrick and Argent were denied by Tom Chaplin on several occasions.   Then up stepped Alford for the goal of the game.  Chaplin kicked the ball up field from just inside his area the ball bounced in the D and Alford took two strides of the halfway line and stroked the ball neatly over the stranded Keepers head for a 3-0 score line.  Hugh Cort was called into action from the kick off and saved well as Sidmouth broke into the Reds area, the rebound was calmly cleared by Smith to Mabin to Johnson who strode past his marker winning a corner. From the corner Alford sent in a whipped ball which was smartly meet by Pollard who made no mistake heading Briixngtons 4th.  Brixington Keeper Cort was caught in two minds and decided to spectacularly head the ball clear when under pressure, reminding the crowd of certain Columbian keepers from bygone years. Having another great game Mabin easily won the ball and strode forward, his ball found the ever industrious Johnson, a quick turn of speed got him past his marker and an early ball sent Argent through, he calmly ghosted past the keeper to fire into an empty net for a 5-0 half time score.

Tobby Hembury and Ross Hansen replaced Cort and Stirling and the game continued at the same break neck speed, Brixington took their foot of the peddle and Sidmouth found more space to play their football.  Collinson was replaced by Penzer and Brixington created several more chances but didn’t manage to add to the tally and it was Sidmouth who found a conciliation goal after Brixington stopped thinking the ball was out of play, the game finished 5-1 to Brixington.

A game played in Great Spirit and a reminder to all to ‘play to the whistle’.

Central FC -4 Reds

After Central had beaten the Reds 1-3 in the first match of the season, the return fixture between them looked like a foregone conclusion it proved to be a real cracker with plenty of action.

The Reds quickly settled into their stride and Dan Johnson was soon played through by Sean Mabin clipping the post after a strong run.  Central seemed stunned as the Reds played some neat football.  Paul Stuart intercepted a Central attack and played in Jamie Alford who went past his marker and put a ball into the corner for Jacob Argent to chase down, the Central defender tried to let the ball run dead but Argents persistence had him winning the ball and lofting the ball into the six yard box for Joshua Collinson to nod home for the opener.  The celebrations where cut short as Central made the most of a loose ball that the Reds left for each other and stabbed home to make it 1-1 within 2 minutes of the restart.  The Reds midfield of Alex Raistrick, Luke Pollard, Alford and Johnson started to dominate and a strong run by Raistrick resulted in a free kick which Collinson drilled into the bottom right corner to restore the lead.  Central hit back straight away with a ball over the top that had Central all alone and lobbing the keeper to level the scores again.  The game ebbed from end to end with both sides looking likely to score when they broke forward.  The Reds looked nervous and the defence of Stuart, Mabin, Ross Hansen and Chris Stirling struggled to cope at times with the fluid Central strikers after one attack resulted in low cross three Reds players miss timed the clearance before the ball was meet at the back post for a soft third goal for Central.  Reds kept working hard and Stirling played in Stuart who played a neat one two with Alford and Pollard before sending Argent through, his cross was swept home by Johnson to level the scores.   A Central corner was palmed away by Hugh Cort only to find an unmarked Central player who gratefully made it 4-3.  Reds did not let their heads drop and Raistrick and Pollard continued to dominate the midfield reducing Central to the long ball which the Reds defence managed to defend better as the game progressed.  Mabin won the ball outside his area and played in Johnson, a quick ball to Collinson was laid back to Pollard who found Johnson breaking clear, he lofted the ball goal wards, the Central keeper misjudged the flight and palmed the ball into the roof of the net for a half time score of 4-4.  The Reds made some changes with Hansen being replaced by Jack Penzer. Pollard went to sweeper and Stirling moved to centre half, Penzer linked up with Collinson and Argent dropped alongside Raistrick in the centre of the park.

The second half was a far better defensive game with Central not having one strike on goal and only two corners and Reds unable to finish any of the half a dozen chances created.  Mabin and Penzer where replaced by Tom Smith and Tom Pridham with 10 and 5 minutes remaining and Pridham was unlucky not to win the game in the last minute when his shot was charged down.  A better result than the first encounter but the Reds rued the errors that let Central into the game.

Kenn Utd 0-11 Reds

Having dispatched Kenn Utd from the cup back in Oct Brixington Reds travelled for the first league meeting between them this season.

The pitch proved playable but very sticky and both sides took their time to settle into the game.  The Reds where the first to settle and soon dominated the play restricting Kenn to shots at distance and no corners.  Tom Smith, Paul Stewart and Ross Hanson where well marshalled by Chris Stirling as they thwarted the Kenn attack with relative ease, keeper Hugh Cort was left with little to do but kept alert and dealt comfortably with the long range strikes.   Reds defence ensured Dan Johnson and Jordan Price got lots of ball on the flanks and their penetrating runs and early ball had strike partners Joshua Collinson and Jacob Argent proving to fast and strong for the Kenn defence.  Jamie Alford and Alex Raistrick ruled the midfield and never let any ball go; they covered every blade of grass and protected their defence well before supporting the wingers and strike force.  After ten minutes Alford found Argent with a neat ball and Argent turned his player and powered beyond the Kenn back four before drilling the ball home.  Two minutes later Raistrick and Alford combined and the latter played in Collinson on the edge of the box, Collinson ghosted past two players before smashing the ball past the keeper only to hit the bar he followed up and latched onto the rebound and shot into the corner for 2-0.  Price was replaced after 20 minutes by Tom Pridham and he soon settled into the game. Argent and Collinson scored one more each before half time and Reds finished the first half 4-0 up.

The second half proved Reds have developed with a strong well drilled performance.  Sean Mabin replaced Hanson at half time and Darren Caplin replaced Pridham after 20 minutes.  With Argent and Collinson netting four and three times respectfully in the second half you would have thought this was a striker’s game.  They did prove to strong and quick and their finishing was excellent but it was the hard selfless work of Johnson/ Alford and Captain Raistrick which won this game.  With support from Price/Pridham and then Caplin they out worked and out played a Kenn midfield that kept going till the end.  The Reds defence proved to well drilled for Kenn’s strikers and played with confidence even under pressure, to quickly control and then distribute the ball early never reverting to the long ball game and therefore controlling play and the game for long periods.  With Johnson, Raistrick and Stirling all going close on several occasions it could have been greater than the 11-0 final score.

Man of the match:  Alford and Raistrick

Reds 6-0 Real Broadclyst

Brixington Reds returned to action against an improved Real Broadclyst with both teams having to battle the icy conditions as well as each other.

The game started with the match flowing from end to end, the icy pitch made conditions harder than normal and both sides struggled to take command.  It was Brixington who struck first, Jamie Alford and Alex Raistrick won the ball and an early defence splitting pass had Josh Collinson out pacing the Broadclyst defence and slotting home.  Broadclyst continued to pressure but keeper Hugh Cort was well defended by Chris Stirling, Ross Hansen, Paul Stewart and Sean Mabin all worked hard as a unit to nullify the Broadclyst attack.   Stirling swept up the ball and drove over the halfway line Broadclyst where slow to react and a pin point early ball through for Tom Pridham saw him race clear and finish strongly doubling the score.  Jordan Price worked tirelessly on the left flank and broke forward continually, one of his cleared cross’s was picked up by Raistrick who feed Collinson, a neat flick had Jacob Argent through and clinically scoring the third from the rebound after the keeper parried his first attempt.  Stewart picked up an injury after another great interception and was replaced by Tom Smith at half time. Smith switched to left back and had an excellent half, his pace and control ensured the Broadclyst right wing attack produced very little.  Keeper Cort pulled of a couple of brave saves at the feet of attackers and handed over to Toby Hembury who was instantly called into action, a great reaction save on the angle kept Brixington 3 up.

Brixington pilled on the pressure and won several corners, Stirling sent two headers just wide before the ball fell to Collinson on the edge of the area and he found the bottom corner with a powerful half volley for 4-0.  Pridham dropped into midfield and Alford went up front. Instantly Alford sent Collinson free, his cross was well controlled by Argent who selflessly squared the ball for Raistrick to make it 5-0.  Smith stopped another Broadclyst attack and played a neat one two with Hanson before sending Price past the Broadclyst back four and winning a free kick. Alford sent over a teasing cross just out of reach of  Stirling, Mabin and Hanson, Raistrick though timed his run to perfection and meet the ball at the back post to double his tally and make it six nil.

A good battling performance by Brixington who where missing two key players, the replacements where proved up to the task and performed excellently against a Broadclyst side that has improved greatly from last season and worked hard until the last whistle.

Reds 17-1 Newton St Cyres

This was the first time these teams have meet, making it unknown territory for the Reds but they stamped their authority on the match just 34 seconds in.  From the kick Alex Raistrick found Joshua Collinson who released Dan Johnson on the flank, two touches had the ball drilled into Raistrick who finished calmly from six yards.  Marcus Hull started up front for the Reds and went close within a minute of the restart before scoring at the near post when under pressure for his first goal and 2-0 in under 3 mins.  Luke Pollard controlled Sean Mabin, Paul Stuart and Ross Hansen the Reds defence and they easily coped with the Newton attack.  Pollard intercepted a poor pass and played in Hull who turned his player and sent Johnson down the flank, a low drilled cross was turned in by Collinson for 3-0.  A neat switch of play from Stuart to Hansen then Johnson who squared the ball for Chris Stirling to smash the ball home from outside the area for 4-0.  Brixington Reds where proving to strong for Newton as Tom Pridham worked the right flank and continued to threaten the Newton goal a great cross to Hull who chested the ball to Collinson who found the net for 5-0.  Jacob Argent playing in goal collected the ball and played in Johnson via Raistrick, a neat one two with Hull had him racing through to score for 6-0.  Hansen stopped a Newton attack and a quick succession of one touch football to Pridham, Raistrick and finally Collinson to score for 7-0.  Another great tackle by Pollard had him playing in Collinson who played a neat one two with Stirling before calmly making it 8-0.  Newton eventually got forward and won a corner the Reds left it to Newton to react and they scored their conciliation goal.

The second half had Collinson and Argent swap positions and Jamie Alford,Darren Caplin and lee Wakadia replace Hansen, Stuart and Hull respectively. Reds played 3-5-2 and continued where they left off and it wasn't long before Caplin released Argent to cross in for Raistrick to make it 9-1.  Another Reds corner was played short to Pridham who played it straight back to Alford who lobbed the ball over the keeper for 10-1.  Collinson and Raistrick swapped positions before Mabin won the ball on the half way line and fed Johnson who raced to the by-line and crossed for Collinson to make it 11-1.  Another corner had Alford finding Raistrick on the edge of the box a half volley was flicked in by Pollard for 12-1.  The pressure was telling and Newton where pinned in their own half for the remainder of the match, another corner was poorly cleared and Argent pounced on the free ball to make it 13-1.   Stirling showed great skills by scoring with a bicycle kick from an Alford corner for 14-1.  Wakadia worked tirelessly and went close on numerous occasions, after one of his forays the ball broke to Alford who chipped the keeper from 25 yds for 15-1.  Yet another corner was whipped in by Johnson, Wakadia's shot was blocked but the rebound was drilled home by Pollard for 16-1. In the dying moments Raistrick played in Mabin who found Alford, a quick ball sent Collinson through to score his 6th and end the game 17-1.  Reds had to work hard to keep their shape and this paid of in handfuls as they totally outplayed Newton who kept going till the final whistle.

Blues 6-1 Kenn
(Cup)

Brixington hard worked in training on their team play and it showed as they totally dominated play in this cup fixture. From the first whistle Brixington took control and played a neat passing game. The tempo was low but Brixington didn't need the pace as they pulled Kenn from side to side and soon had Joshua Collinson and Jacob Argent having good shots. Chris Stirling ensured Sean Mabin, Paul Stewart and Ross Hansen nullified the Kenn attack with no shots or corners in the first half. Dan Johnson found loads of room on the flank and it wasn't long before he found Tom Pridham who finished smartly for his first for the club. Jamie Alford and Alex Raistrick soon had the midfield tied up and the latter intercepted a clearance then sent Collinson through who gave the keeper no chance. Then Stirling calmly stopped a Kenn attack and passed into Raistrick who flicked the ball out to Argent sending him down the flank a good drilled cross was meet by Raistrick who calmly placed the ball past the keeper for 3-0. A quick ball from Hugh Cort the keeper to Mabin took three touches via Raistrick and Collinson to have the latter scoring for 4-0.

The second half had Mabin replaced by Tom Smith who settled into his roll very quickly and Toby Hembury replacing Cort in goal. Brixington kept up the possession football and created themselves lots of room an early corner was meet by Stirling who headed home for 5-0 and his first for his new club. Marcus Hull replaced the hard working Tom Pridham and was soon in the action just shooting wide from a Johnson cross.  Another great run saw Collinson ghosting past 4 Kenn players and a low cross was meet by Raistrick who found the corner with an excellently placed shot for 6-0. In the dying minutes a clumsy challenge by Hansen saw the only shot on goal by Kenn and Hembury totally misjudged the ball as it snuck under him for a late conciliation goal. Brixington showed real class and Kenn worked hard in this cup fixture.

Reds 2-9 Exwick

This game was always going to be a tough fixture after Exwick ended last season as the inform team. The first 10 minutes had both sides going close and Dan Johnson and Joshua Collinson had a couple of good chances but it was Exwick that opened the score with an accurate shoot into the corner from outside the area. Brixington Kept competing with Alex Raistrick and Jacob Argent working hard in midfield and the flanks of Johnson and Lee Wakadia helping to stem the tide. Chris Stirling soon settled into the grove and controlled the defence of Ross Hanson, Sean Mabin and Paul Stewart with confidence. Stirling swept up an Exwick attack and fed Johnson who raced up field and won a corner. Jamie Alford fired in the corner and Stirling tested the keeper with a great header the loose ball was pounced on by Raistrik who stabbed the ball home for the equaliser. Reds 1-1 Sidmouth Vikings Youth

Both teams found it hard to get into their rhythm in this very stop start game.  After early pressure it was Brixington that started to find holes in the Sidmouth defence.   Joshua Collinson, Dan Johnson and Jacob Argent were denied by Tom Chaplin on several occasions.   Luke Pollard marshalled Sean Mabin, Paul Stewart and Ross Hansen in defence dening Sidmouth all but long range efforts and they in turn found the hard working Johnson and Tom Pridham on the flanks who tried to play a fast game winning several free kicks not always to their advantage and the frustration of Brixington who created some great openings.   With Brixington on the ascendancy, the first half ended 0-0.

Alex Raistrick and Argent dominated the midfield and feed Collinson and Jack Penzer who continued to cause Sidmouth problems.  An early ball from Pollard sent Collinson clear and he clinically found the net for the lead.   Brixington settled and continued to play the better football but could not kill the game of and with minutes to go a Sidmouth scored from a corner with a neat flick and great finish.   From the kick of Collinson rose and flicked the ball onto Johnson on then edge of the area, Johnson went passed his marker and drilled the ball home only to have the play called back because the keeper had banged his head.   The final whistle went and the game was drawn a frustrated Brixington must know kill teams of earlier to avoid the snatched equaliser.

Reds 12-2 Culm United

Brixington proved to strong for Culm in this fixture and showed real class in their patient build-up play.

Culm found them-selves pinned into their own half straight from the first whistle as Brixington completely dominated the first half of play, but Culm managed to hold on for 10 minutes before the flood gates opened, the next half an hour saw Jacob Argent open the score after reacting to a spilled save from a Dan Johnson shot and Alex Raistrick opened his account from close range from an Argent low cross.  Tom Pridham and Johnson worked tirelessly on the flanks and Raistrick and Argent continually feed them balls to enable Raistrick to score three more, not to be left out Ross Hansen picked up a half cleared corner and swept it in to the bottom corner.  Brixingtons defence of Paul Stewart, Sean Mabin Hansen and Luke Pollard easily dealt with the Culm attack, an early throw from Goalkeeper Hugh Cort found Mabin and a quick spell of one touch to Argent-Raistrick and Pridham had Johnson finishing well at the back post half time had Brixington 8-0 up and cruising.

The second half was a closer affair with Culm throwing men forward and  they did manage two consolation goals but not after Brixington had scored 4 more.  Jack Penzer opened his account for the season after a neat one two with Raistrick .  The introduction of Maeson O’sullivan for Hansen and Marcus Hull for Pridham had Brixington still pushing forward and Darren Caplin replaced Mabin in defence and soon found his feet.

The final whistle saw Brixington 12-2 winners having played an excellent quick controlled direct game of football that Culm could not cope with.

Reds 5-3 West Hill Wasps

Brixington complete two firsts.

Brixington started on the attack and played some good controlled football. A neat interchange between Alex Raistrick and Dan Johnson had the latter shooting just wide in the opening seconds, moments later Johnson played a great ball through for Raistrick to score but was called of side. Another early ball found Joshua Collinson whose neat flick sent Jamie Alford through only to be tackled as he was about to shoot.  West Hill reverted to the long game using their 6 ft striker to good effect. But Sean Mabin, Ross Hansen and Jordan Price where well marshalled by Luke Pollard and they soaked up the early pressure. Brixington moved up a gear and JacobArgent and Raistrick took control of the midfield. Tom Pridham and Johnson started to find more space on the flanks and soon had West Hill on the back foot.  West Hill gave away a number of corners in quick succession and after Pollard went close twice with his head on the third attempt he latched onto a ball in the box and lashed it home.

Brixington grew in strength and soon had West hill pushed back, Johnson was fouled 20 yards out and Collinson drilled the ball into the bottom corner from the free kick.  Another long ball from West Hill caught Brixington still celebrating and a neat finish ended the first half 2-1.

Toby Hermbury/Jack Penzer replaced Hugh Cort/Collinson and West Hill bombarded the Brixington defence with long balls a cruel deflection found the score levelled.  Straight from the Kick off Raistrick was sent through by Pollard, he took one touch and blasted the ball into the corner for a 3-2 lead.  Brixington settled down to their game and soon Penzer released Argent who drilled the ball into the box for Johnson to finished with a great first time effort.  West Hill continued to push forward but to no avail and Mabin again found Alford who neatly beat his player and chipped the stranded keeper from 30 yds.  Another long ball found Hermbury slow to react and West Hill notched their 3rd. The game ended 5-3 and Brixington had got their first win of the season and their first win over West Hill.

Reds 1-3 Central FC

If you wanted to know how to dominate a game and still loose ask England and after this match Brixington Reds

The match started with Brixington on the attack and playing some good controlled flowing football. A neat interchange between Jordan Price-Alex Raistrick and Dan Johnson had the latter attempting to chip the keeper only to see it just drop over the bar. The Central attack was kept at bay by Paul Stuart, Tom Smith, Price and Ross Hansen and their early ball soon found Jacob Argent on the flank. One of these early balls found Luke Pollard who released Johnson an early through ball sent Joshua Collinson past the defence and an early strike beat the keeper but a bounce sent it inches wide. The momentum stayed with Brixington who worked hard to stifle a hard working Central side. After 25 minutes a speculative Central throw in found the Brixington defence flat footed and watching as an unmarked striker slotted home.

The second half found both teams up their game and playing better football. After 10 mins Alford sent in a corner which was half cleared, but Collinson rifled it home for the equaliser. Brixington went on the hunt for a winner and Alford, Argent, Collinson, Johnson and Raistrick had shots blocked, but two instances of ball watching found Central 3-1 to the good and Brixington stunned. The introduction of Tom Pridham for Smith livened up the Brixington play but they could not get back on terms. Concentration at all times is a valuable lesson to be learnt the hard way.

Team: -  Cort, Price, Smith, Stuart, Hansen, Argent, Pollard, Raistrick, Johnson, Alford, Collinson. Subs: Pridham (70 mins), Wakadia, Penzer, O'Sullivan (45 mins)
