Blues 4-3  Broadclyst Sports Club

Blues stage fine comeback to snatch all three points

Brixington showed real character in this game proving you never give up until the final whistle as they staged a late comeback to take all three points.

Blues started much the better side and at every opportunity they looked to pierce the Broadclyst defence but the end product just seemed to be missing when blues got close to goal. Both blues wingers Jack Greenslade and Adam Croft were prominent down the wings but the final ball didn’t pick out a Blues shirt. Blues were then court on the counter attack when blues keeper Ty Tuckett could only finger tip the ball into the net. Brixington once again were still looking to put pressure on the Broadclyst defence Striker Sam Bird headed wide from a Greenslade corner Croft drove in a free kick that was headed off the line as blues went in search of the equalizer. Finally blues got their reward when Croft drove a perfect angled shot inside the post. A slip by defender Ross Bright let in Broadclyst for them to regain the lead when Tuckett was beaten by a long swerving shot.

Second half blues once again were playing some neat football strikers Adam Wakely and Bird were working tirelessly up front and were being well supported by midfielders Mark Lever and Hugo Demetre. But once again blues got caught on the break this time Bright was alleged to of brought down a Broadclyst player in the box resulting in a spot kick. which they scored from. This seem to spur the blues on and they powered forward defender Josh Sale got the break Blues were looking for when his shot was went straight through Danny Mann’s legs for a real howler. Croft continued to influence a lot of the blues chances down the right with ten minutes to go Bird collected the ball outside the box he fed Croft who crossed low for striker Wakely to pop up with fine finish from close range. Blues could sense all three points were there for the taking Bird then missed a great chance in front of goal as Broadclyst stuck every player behind the ball to try and protect the draw. Blues then had the ball kicked off the line as the pressure continued. With minutes to go blues had a free kick outside the box Lever powered in the free kick Mann’s fingertips pushed the ball onto the bar, from the rebound the ball came back into the box towards goal and there was Bird on hand with a neat little flick send the ball in to the corner of the net to complete a fine Brixington come back. Man of the match went to Sam Bird for his battling performance and the match winner. Credit to both teams this was a very exciting game to watch.

Blues 4-2 West Exe Youth AET

Knockout Cup

Cup holders snatch win in extra time

Brixington were stretched to the limit in this exciting 1st round cup match and managed to seal victory with 2 goals in extra time.

Blues had the worse possible start when they fell behind in the opening minutes West Exe caught blues on the break and with no blues defender closing down the attack the West Exe striker beat blues keeper Ty Tuckett with an angled shot. Brixington responded well and in places played some fine football but were lacking the clinical finish in front of goal. Both wingers Jack Greenslade and Sam Bird were seeing a lot of the ball and were being well serviced by the blues midfield. West Exe we’re relying on the big kick up field which kept the backline of Ian Perkins. Josh Sale. Hugo Demetre and Jabus Moore busy in the blues defence. Although blues had settled down West Exe were still looking dangerous on the break and did carve out 2 further chances. As the half drew to a close Bird broke free in the box and he lashed his shot against the bar.

Second half blues up the tempo of the game and once again were getting in behind the West Exe defence but it was still not happening in front of goal for Brixington. Tuckett then kept blues in the game with a fingertip save to push the ball onto the bar.

Finally blues hard work Endeavor paid off when Greenslade crossed at the back post for a blues striker to head home. Blues went in search for number 2 as West Exe continued to be under pressure. Moments later Brixington were ahead when Perkins delivered a great through ball for blues strikes to score. But West Exe had a never say  die attitude and from a lofted free kick  and a scramble in front of the blues goal they managed to draw level.

This sent the game into extra but blues did look sharp and quicker and from Greenslade’s corner captain Mark Lever was on hand to flick the ball pass the keeper West Exe heads started to go down and in the final half of extra time blues booked their place into the next round when blues  striker Adam Wakely set up  Greenslade who finished well

Man of the match went to Sam Bird for all his hard work unselfish running off the ball..

Crediton Youth 1–1 Blues

Blues lose 100% record but still remain unbeaten this season with a draw at Crediton

Brixington were held to a draw which saw them drop their first league points of the season after Crediton struck a late equalizer to salvage a point.

Crediton started the game by far the more determined team and Louis Kinch displayed this with a shot come cross that hit the blues bar. Blues keeper Ty Tuckett then had to make a fingertip save from a header to prevent Crediton taking the lead. Blues slowly came into the game and started to create some chances of their own Jack Greenslade tried to chip the keeper when put through but didn’t get enough purchase on the ball. Crediton defended in numbers making it difficult for blues to break through Greenslade had a glorious chance to score after a great pass from Liam Ellis but the winger failed to finish. Ian Perkins should’ve done better with his header as he missed a good chance to open the scoring. As the half progressed both teams were committed in the tackles and blues finally got the breakthrough they deserved when a loose ball was picked up by Ellis on the edge of the box and he let fly with a rasping drive into the net. Blues had their injury problems along the way losing Mark Lever, Hugo Demetre and second half Greenslade struggled off.

Second half the game was very tight and blues needed a second goal Sam Bird had a great chance to add to the lead but couldn’t connect with the ball from close range. Keeper Tuckett pulled off another great save tipping the ball over his bar. As the half progressed you could see Crediton pushing blues back as they came in search for the equalizer and with 4 minutes left Crediton scored with a shot out of nothing that took a deflection giving Tuckett no chance. On reflection blues no they had the chances to win the game but credit to Crediton they never gave up until the end.

Man of the match Joshua Sale was a rock although the game. And Tuckett’s heroics was a close second. This week blues take on West Exe at home in the cup

United 0-10 Blues

Blues Ran out comfortable winners in the Brixington derby

Brixington Blues continued their impressive start to the season with their unbeaten run in tact beating their fellow club team at a canter.

The match on the whole was quite a scrappy affair and United did their best to break the blues rhythm where possible this they managed to some effect. It took blues a good 10 minutes before they mounted a serious threat on the United goal. Sam Bird broke the deadlock for the blues and fellow striker Adam Wakley added to the scoring shortly after. Blues were still not firing on all cylinders and only showed glimpses of the neat passing game that has been a trade mark to the football they play. Further goals from Wakley, Ty Tuckett (Pen), Josh Sale and an OG meant blues went in at halftime 6 goals to the good.

Second half saw blues dominate much more of the possession but at times were wasteful in front of goal. Jack Greenslade drove home form close range to add to the scoring both Sale and Mark Lever hit the cross bar. Bird grabbed his second after neatly rounding the keeper. Ross Bright drilled a left foot shot passed the keeper for his first goal for the blues and right on the final whistle Wakley grabbed his hat-trick to round off the scoring. Credit to United they never stopped hassling the blues players throughout the game and ex blues player Jordon Javadi was by far their best player on the pitch.  Blues Man of the match went to Hugo Demetre with a very disciplined and solid performance.

Blues 2-0 Pinhoe Spartans Athletic

Blues Take all three points from league rivals Pinhoe in title chase

Blues came into this game knowing a victory over Pinhoe would give them a five point cushion over their rivals with only three games played thus leaving Pinhoe to play catch up.

With the play off final defeat of last season still fresh in the blues players minds Brixington started the game well as they probed the Pins defence. Pins keeper Nathan Keats made a hash of his goal kick and blues striker Adam Wakely pounced to slot home from close range to give blues the lead in the opening minutes. Brixington settled well and began to pass the ball through the field Josh Sale’s pinpoint pass to Jack Greenslade caused the visitors defence a problem but the blues forwards couldn’t capitalize on the chance. Midfielder Liam Ellis drove a free kick in but Keats managed to save his shot. Blues were winning the midfield battle Ellis and Mark Lever competing well for possession with both winger Greenslade and Dawson enjoying a lot of space on the wings. As the half went a bit of needle crept into the game with both teams knowing a win for either side will be a big factor for the league placings blues lost a bit of their composure but at the back Sale and Ian Perkins, Adam Croft and Hugo Demetre were having terrific games and anything Pinhoe threw at the blues Brixington were always equal to it.

Second half Brixington once again took the game to Pinhoe but the visitors defended stoutly as blues continued to search for a second. Pinhoe realizing they needed an equalizer tried to push blues back. They carved out two good chances but Blues keeper Ty Tuckett was in good form and made fine saves to keep blues in front. Greenslade had a great chane but fired wide of the goal. Midway through the half blues dealt Pinhoe a killer blow when they doubled the lead Ellis found him self in space to rifle home. This seem to knock the stuffing out of the visitors and if anything it looked like blues could add to the lead. The game finished that way with Blues now having a five point cushion on Pinhoe this could  prove too much for the Exeter outfit.

Blues man of the match was Liam Ellis who made a major contribution throughout the game.

This week Blues are away to Brixington Utd

Spartans 0-5 Blues

Brixington defended well after a shaky start to prevent a buoyed up Pinhoe from taking the initiative. A succession of free kicks went the way of the home team as Brixington mistimed several tackles in their haste to gain the ascendancy but without any threat to the scoreline. Brixington found their composure and after a series of swift incisive moves the ball found it’s way to Jack Greenslade who carefully placed the ball past the keeper from the edge of the area. Greenslade was in the right place again within a few minutes when a rasping shot across the goal mouth came in from Aaron Dawson leaving him with a tap in Mark Lever was added to the scorers list when he deftly turned and chipped the keeper into the top corner of the net. This third goal seemed to knock the ambition out of the home team and they seemed to concentrate on damage limitation until the half time whistle. Kyle Bassett was taken off to be replaced by Sam Bird after causing mayhem in the opponent’s area. The boys went into the half time break knowing that they’d battled hard to get a dominant lead but one slip could let Pinhoe back into the game.

Blues started the half brightly and were constantly running the Pinhoe defence ragged. Jabus Moore was subbed for Adam Croft. The defence of Hugo Demetre, Josh Sale, Adam Croft and Ian Perkins on his first game back kept it tight at the back and conceded no scraps to the home team. Ian Perkins fitness couldn’t last and he was replaced by Ross Bright. Pinhoe made no scoring chances in the second half .Brixington made and missed several chances until eventually Liam Ellis met Dawsons cross with a tremendous header past the Pinhoe keeper. Adam Wakely added Blues 5th goal when Liam slotted him through with a great ball. Jack worked tirelessly for his hatrick but could only find the crossbar with his effort towards the end. Ty Tuckett was barely troubled in goal as regards saves but his distribution was an important factor in setting up several attacking moves. Sparky claimed man of the match with a great performance. Brixington host Pinhoe Athletic next week at home and will be looking for a third successive clean sheet.

Blues 15-0 Phoenix Club

Blues start league campaign with easy victory over Phoenix

Blues won their opening game of the season with a fine win over Exeter side Phoenix Club.

Blues were always in control of this game from the first whistle wingers Aaron Dawson and Jack Greenslade were causing problems down the flanks and with the pace and flair of strikers Kyle Bassett and Adam Wakley Phoenix found themselves struggling to keep the blues out. Blues opener came from the penalty spot after Dawson was brought in the box, Liam Ellis tuck the resulting spot kick away. Blues neat passing and pace was just too much for the visitors as Wakley 4, Bassett 1, Mark Lever, Greenslade all opened their accounts for the season in a first half that saw Brixington take a nine goal lead.

Second half Blues continued to dominate as Brixington went in search for more goals but they seem to take their foot off the gas in front of goal as many chances went begging. They did manage to add to the scoring with a Dawson double Adam Croft, Bassett 2 and substitute Sam Bird completing the rout. Ty Tuckett making his debut in the blues goal came out field in the second half and set up a goal. Ross Bright also appeared for the blues on his debut along side Josh sale in defence and had a sound game.

Credit must also go to the Phoenix keeper who did really well to keep the scoring to a minimum. Adam Croft won the man of the match award with an excellent display throughout the game.

This week blues are away to Pinhoe Spartans which will be a far stiffer test.

Brixington blues are victorious at St James Park once again with a stunning display and add another trophy to their list of honors.

With a difficult wind swirling around the pitch both teams adapted well on a perfect playing surface at St James Park. Blues started to probe with Jack Greenslade prominent down the left with a couple of good crosses into the box. Blues midfielders Liam Ellis and Mark Lever started to take control of middle and once Brixington got the ball down and played good possession football they showed why they have been a dominant force in local youth football. It wasn’t long before blues broke the deadlock Ellis had an attempt on goal which fell kindly to leading striker Adam Wakley who coolly finished past the keeper. Stoke Hill were trying to play the long ball tactic but blues backline of Ian Perkins, Joshua Sale, Hugo Demetre and Jabus Moore were coping well and managed to stop any threat from Stoke Hill. Blues doubled their lead when again Wakley was on hand to poach a goal at the far post to make it 2 – 0. Greenslade had a great chance to score but blazed his right foot shot wide of the target. Blues continued to play splendid football on the lush surface. Aaron Dawson and Sam Bird combined well down the right Bird then raced into the box only to see his low drive crash against the inside of the post and rebound to safety. Blues could sense there were more goals to come captain Lever obliged when he struck a left foot shot in off the post to make it 3 – 0 then followed a planned goal celebration performed by half the team. Blues at this point were in control and continued to play some fine football. Lever grabbed a fourth when he gambled on a high ball in the box and managed to out jump keeper Lloyd White to head home into the net. Wakley then was denied a first half hat-trick Ellis delivered a teasing free kick into the box Lever managed to head across goal for Wakley to head home but the striker was adjudged to be offside. Ellis and Greenslade had further attempts on goal but blues were well satisfied with their fist half performance.

Second half Blues once again started strongly and at times Stoke Hill struggled to get the ball out of their own half. Ellis, Lever and Wakley all had attempts on goal but were wide of the target. Blues did manage score again when there was a goal mouth scramble and striker Bird got the all important touch to put the ball over the line. Stoke Hill then had their best spell in the game but couldn’t capitalize on a couple of free kicks awarded to them. Brixington keeper Adam Cornish was well protected by the blues back line. Blues completed the scoring when Greenslade sent over a corner under the bar and winger Dawson was on hand to get a touch to put the ball in. Defender Sale was unlucky not to increase the lead he hit a rasping left foot drive from outside the box that crashed against the underside of the bar and out for safety. Blues introduced their substitutes Kyle Bassett and Adam Croft, Bassett was straight away racing into the box but lifted his lob over the bar. In the later stages blues made a switch putting keeper Cornish out on the pitch and he almost made an impact when he narrowly missed the target after Ellis had delivered the corner.

Brixington ran out the deserved winners and at times they played some delightful football that they can be really proud of. Captain Lever lifted the trophy with defender Ian Perkins picking up the man of the match award for a fine display.
