U9s REPORTS

Brixington Blues U9s 1-1 Honiton Town U9s

The first fixture saw Brixington come away with a draw, despite overwhelming pressure and attempts at goal. Although going behind early in the game, the Blues spent much of the game in Honiton’s half. James Doble, Olly Toomey and Connal Deehan-Jackson all went close, forcing smart saves and good defending from the packed defence, yet the score remained 1-0.

Straight from the restart Doble and Callum Cross again shot on target, before Hayden Boatman was called on to make a save, with Jacob Dunn clearing the rebound. A good passing move saw Jordan Capey put in Jackson, who found himself on his wrong foot and shot just wide. Eventually Brixington were finally rewarded for their efforts when Toomey headed down the Honiton’s keeper’s clearance and ran on to bury his shot in the top left corner; no more than the Blues deserved.

Brixington Blues U9s 3-4 West Hill Wasps

In their second fixture, Brixington again found themselves a goal down very early in the game. The Blues soon replied when Boatman’s kick from goal found Toomey, whose run and shot made it 1-1. James Slinn pushed forward and went close, before Toomey’s shot was parried and Capey put away the rebound. The lead was short lived as Wasps levelled, and with Marcus Weeks being denied from the kick-off West Hill managed a third before the break.

Toomey bagged his second and the equaliser from a Cross through ball, and despite Brixington applying much pressure, West Hill broke to score the winner with time running out.

Brixington Blues U9s 0-2 Exmouth Amateurs U9s

Brixington’s first fixture of the year saw them narrowly defeated by a well-organised Ammies team. Both sides played some excellent football, with Exmouth having the edge. Jordan Capey made some fine saves to keep the score level at half time.

The second half saw both teams go close on several occasions before a fine passing move saw Exmouth open the scoring. The Blues could not find that cutting edge and despite going close, Ammies made it 2-0 and put the result beyond any doubt. This was by far the best performance by Brixington this season with all the players deserving praise for their efforts.

Brixington Blues U9s 2-6 Countess Weir Dynamoes U9s

The second fixture found Brixington 3 goals down by halftime, without really troubling the opposition defence. After the break, Hayden Boatman showed some safe handling and lengthy kicking, leading to Connal Deehan-Jackson’s ball putting in Olly Toomey who forced a good save. Marcus Weeks then went on a run from halfway avoiding several tackles, again forcing a sturdy stop. Despite much pressure, Dynamoes broke away and made it 4-0. Not letting their heads drop, Brixington kept going forward and were rewarded when James Doble scored direct from a corner and Toomey poked home. With their tails up The Blues pushed for a third, but were yet again caught on the break twice more. Nine tired lads were happy to hear the final whistle!

Blues 1-2 Crediton Saints

Saturday’s first fixture saw two well matched teams play some excellent football. Blues started well, applying some decent pressure but unable to open the scoring. Marcus Weeks came close with a left foot drive, but Brixington were soon behind, despite several good saves from Jordan Capey. The Blues’ best chance of the half came when Olly Toomey narrowly missed James Doble’s cross and it remained 1-0 at the break.

The second half saw much end-to-end play, with Toomey and Weeks both having chances blocked by the Saints’ defence. Connal Deehan-Jackson and Jacob Dunn thwarted several attacks, but were eventually broken down making a two-goal deficit with only minutes left. Brixington remained focussed and were rewarded when Toomey poked home a through ball, unfortunately to no avail as the whistle blew for full time.

 Blues 7-1 Beacon Knights

Callum Cross scored an impressive hat-trick in an emphatic win for the Blues in their second fixture. Brixington started strongly, but were caught on the break to go one behind. This served as a wake up call, with several players trying their luck from long range, and finding the net. Olly Toomey equalised and soon after Cross opened his account. Connal Deehan-Jackson added a third before Cross made it 4-1 at the interval.

The hat-trick was soon completed, after a run from halfway saw a shot buried in the bottom corner. James Slinn’s drop kick was then headed on by Hayden Boatman to Marcus Weeks who calmly made it 6-1. Boatman then turned in a low cross for Brixington’s seventh and with time running out, Toomey was denied a second as his header looped off the bar.
