Blues 4-0 Pinhoe Spartans
On
a gorgeous sunny morning two of the top four sides met and played a good natured
game with Brixington prevailing thanks to some clinical finishing from the
Blues.
Brixington
started the better and some confident goalkeeping was keeping Brixington off the
score sheet. The first goal arrived after a twisting run from Tom Taylor gave
him the space to place the ball in the top corner of the net. Pinhoe started
exerting some pressure as Brixington stopped competing in midfield and the blues
defence had to work hard to keep the lead at the break.
The
second half started with the Pins looking for an early equaliser and Brixington
were working hard to close the ball down, from a clearance out of defence Taylor
was set free and he rounded the keeper to give the blues a two goal cushion.
Brixington were now creating chances and the outstanding Pinhoe keeper was
thwarting everything but after he had made another super save Callum Shipton was
following up to put the rebound in for number three. The game was now over and
it was no surprise when Taylor rifled in number three for a well deserved hat
trick to complete the scoring.
A mention for Alex Sparkes the blues keeper who was deputising for the regular keeper who was ill, Alex was cool and calm and thoroughly deserved the clean sheet that he kept.

Okehampton
1-8 Blues
Juventus League Cup
The
trip to Okehampton in the Juventus cup for the newly crowned Under 15 champions
looked a tricky prospect as the Okes are in pole position to clinch the division
2 title.
The
Blues started in ruthless fashion as Karl Riddell broke the deadlock in the
first attack with a goal that went straight in from a corner. The second soon
arrived as Tom Taylor finished well when put in on goal. Luke Bradford added the
third with a powerful shot that gave the keeper no chance. The first half was
played in the main in the Okehampton half with two more goals being scored by
Tom Heritage and Taylor. With a five goal lead at the break Brixington were
unlikely to be pegged back.
The
second half was a more even affair as the conditions favoured Okehampton but the
Blues held firm while still trying to play the passing football that is demanded
from them. Further goals from Luke Spray, Sam Dickinson and Sam Wells with
Okehampton getting one back in reply. The goals from Dickinson and Wells were
their first goals for over three years and they both certainly enjoyed the
moment.
Scorers:-
(Taylor 2, Riddell, Bradford, Spray, Heritage, Wells, Dickinson.

Blues 7-0 Crediton
Both sides were struggling for numbers and had the bare eleven players at the start of a match that would conclude the year for both sides. You would have been forgiven for thinking that it was an end of season match such was the lack lustre pace as both sides struggled to put more than two passes together. Crediton had the best effort early on as a super shot from twenty five yards hit the underside of the Brixington bar and was scrambled to safety. The Blues took the lead soon after as Tom Heritage volleyed home from close range and he also added the second with a neat shot that found the corner of the net. That concluded a half of football that would not live in the memory too long.
The
second half started at a brisker pace as both sides seemed to wake from their
slumber. Heritage completed his Hat trick and that was quickly followed by the
most popular goal of the day from Joe Thomlinson as he was on hand to smash home
number four. The match was now over and Brixington added three more goals before
the final whistle through Karl Riddell, Luke Bradford and Luke Spray. The
scoreline may look emphatic but Brixington had put in their worst performance of
the season and hopefully at the resumption of the season will get
back to the passing game that has been a pleasure to watch.
Scorers:- Heritage 3, Thomlinson, Spray, Bradford, Riddell.
Brixington: Josh Bray, Sam Dickinson, Sam Wells, Luke Bradford, Luke Spray, Karl Riddell, Callum Shipton, James Flockhart, Alex Sparkes, Joe Thomlinson, Peter Rundelle, Tom Heritage.

Sidmouth
Town 1-8 Blues
Juventus League Cup
Brixington
moved into the next round of the cup after a hard fought game with Sidmouth who
managed to make life uncomfortable for the free scoring leaders of Division One.
The
first thirty minutes were goalless as the impressive Sidmouth keeper thwarted
all that came his way until his defiance was broken by Luke Bradford who latched
onto a Josh Jones through ball to smash home an unstoppable shot.
Blues
were visible lifted and Bradford doubled the lead when he got on the end of a
Karl Riddell parried shot to tap in to leave the score at 2-0 at the break.
Brixington
new the next goal was vital and Alex Sparkes made the most of a melee from a
corner to get goal three.
Bradford
completed his hat trick as Brixington looked to kill the game.
Sidmouth
to their credit got a goal back that seemed
to sting Brixington into action and Sparkes smashed a left foot volley
into the net for his second.
Luke
Spray finished neatly when put in on the keeper to net number six.
Peter
Rundell hit a shot with the outside of his foot from twenty Five Yards that
dipped in under the crossbar and the scoring was completed by Bradford from
thirty yards who got his fourth and Blues eighth.
Brixington weren’t at their best but kept battling and ultimately got the reward that they deserved.
Scorers:- Bradford 4; Sparkes 2; Spray; Rundell:
Brixington:
Josh Bray, Matt Skinner, Sam Dickinson, Sam Wells, Luke Bradford, Luke Spray,
Josh Jones, Karl Riddell, Callum Shipton, Nathan Doble, Joe Thomlinson, Peter

Blues 6-0 Stoke Hill
On
a bitterly cold morning Brixington and Stoke Hill met and Brixington started
like the proverbial runaway train and were four up within 15 minutes as Stoke
struggled to cope with the fast flowing football that the Blues served up. Luke
Bradford opened the scoring with an angled shot across the keeper this was
quickly followed with a neat header from Tom Heritage. Tom Taylor took advantage
of confusion in the Stoke Hill penalty area to tap in the third. The fourth was
added by Callum Shipton to give Brixington a four goal cushion. The rest of the
half was mainly played in the Stoke Hill half without any more goals being
scored.
The
second half didn’t have the fireworks that the first half had as Brixingon
couldn’t quite finish the moves off. The next goal was a 25 yard shot into the
corner of the net from James Flockhart. Josh Jones added a similar goal a little
later to complete the scoring. Stoke Hill played some lovely one touch football
at times to belie their position in the league.
A word for Matt Skinner who took over the goalkeeping duties as the regular keeper had been advised not to play due to a rugby injury picked up earlier in the week, Matt played with confidence and assurance behind a well marshalled defence.
Scorers:-
Bradford, Taylor, Heritage, Shipton, Flockhart, Jones.
Brixington:
Matt Skinner, Sam Dickinson, Sam Wells, Luke Bradford, Luke Spray, Josh Jones,
Karl Riddell, Callum Shipton, Nathan Doble, James Flockhart, Joe Thomlinson, Tom
Taylor, Peter Rundelle, Tom Heritage.

Blues
4-0 West
Hill
Brixington
put in a competent performance to see off a spirited West Hill team, three goals
up at the break put Brixington in control and they added a fourth in the second
half.
The
scoring was started by Luke Spray as he swept a low shot into the net, the Blues
were now creating chances but not converting until some good work by Nathan
Doble led to a scramble in the area which Josh Jones smashed the ball into the
net.
The
blues were pushing for the third and just before the interval a deft chip from
Spray beat the keeper and fell into the corner of the net.
The
second half was in the main one way traffic as the Blues passing football was a
joy to watch at times but the final touch was only applied once as Callum
Shipton finished off a move firing home from ten yards.
Brixingtons
football when the players work for each other is very difficult for opponents to
cope with and they must keep that work ethic in mind all the way through the
match.
Scorers:-
Spray 2, Jones, Shipton
Brixington:
Josh Bray, Sam Dickinson, Sam Wells, Alex Sparkes, Luke Bradford, Luke Spray,
Josh Jones, Karl Riddell, Callum Shipton, Nathan Doble, James Flockhart, Joe

Blues
(Taylor) 1-1 Saint Martins
On
a super surface the top two sides in the table faced each other and in the end
went away with a point a piece as Blues were pegged back by a determined Saint
Martins side.
Brixington
started in the ascendancy and were pushing Saints back with quick incisive
passing but not quite playing the final ball.
The
best chance fell when Luke Spray was scythed down in the area to leave Blues
with a penalty but the keeper was equal to Tom Taylor’s
kick and did enough to put the rebound chance off also.
Taylor
didn’t have to wait long to make
amends as after confusion in the Saints area he smashed an unstoppable half
volley into the roof of the net.
Blues
led by a goal at the break but the quality of play deserved a bigger lead.
The
second half was more equal as Saints went searching for the equaliser but the
Brixington defence were coping with attacks while also being the launching pad
for the Blues attacks which were being thwarted also.
Saint
Martins got their equaliser when a rash challenge in the area gave the visitors
a penalty which was scored in great style.
The
remaining twenty minute were fairly even with Brixington having the better
opportunities without getting the vital winning goal.
The
match ended equal with Brixington kicking themselves for not taking more of the
numerous chances that came their way.
Brixington:
Josh Bray, Sam Dickinson, Sam Wells, Alex Sparkes, Luke Bradford, Luke Spray,
Josh Jones, Karl Riddell, Peter Rundell, Callum Shipton, Tom Taylor, James

Pinhoe
1 Blues (Riddell, Bradford, Shipton).
On
a gorgeous morning that was more summer than autumn two committed sides met in
an entertaining match that produced some good football.
The
match was even as both defences were on top not giving any clear cut chances but
it was Blues who broke the deadlock when a deep cross was put into the corner of
the net by Luke Bradford.
Brixington
now had a foothold in the game and doubled their lead as Karl Riddell latched
onto a Bradford through ball to finish neatly and go in at the interval two
goals up.
Pinhoe
started the second half stronger and cut the arrears as a statuesque defence
gave Pinhoe a goal back from a free header.
Brixington
didn’t panic and carried on playing their passing game and a neat move down
the right wing ended with Callum Shipton volleying in with his left foot at the
far post.
Brixington will be pleased with the result but must cut out the niggling fouls that put them under pressure.
Brixington:
Josh Bray, Sam Dickinson, Sam Wells, Alex Sparkes, Luke Bradford, Luke Spray,
Josh Jones, Karl Riddell, Nathan Doble, Callum Shipton, Tom Taylor, James
Flockhart, Joe Thomlinson, Jack Watkins.

West
Hill 0-6 Blues (Taylor 3, Riddell, Bradford, Sparkes)
Brixington were on the road for the third game running as they traveled to West Hill and came away with three points.
Both sides started sloppily but Brixington found themselves two goals up after
ten minutes through Tom Taylor and Karl Riddell as they managed to take the
early chances that were presented rather than worked for.
The
game settled down after that as both sides started playing football and West
Hill were thwarted by a smart save from Josh Bray.
Brixington
finished the half the stronger as they just failed to increase the lead when
a super passing move ended with Taylor having his shot cleared off the
line.
Brixington
now had the conditions in their favour and they were now playing with
more confidence and Luke Bradford added the third after his original free
kick was blocked by the wall.
Tom
Taylor completed a hat trick as he grabbed two more quick goals, the first of
those a volley that left the keeper stationary as it flashed passed him.
Alex
Sparkes completed the scoring as he rose the highest at a corner and headed into
the net.
A competent performance from Brixington as they took the opportunities that came there way.
Brixington:
Josh Bray, Sam Dickinson, Sam Wells, Alex Sparkes, Luke Bradford, Luke Spray,
Josh Jones, Karl Riddell, Adam Otto, Callum Shipton, Tom Taylor, James Flockhart,

Kentisbeare
0-3 Blues (Spray, Riddell, Taylor)
Brixington
travelled to the current league leaders knowing that a good performance would be
needed to take anything from the game and they certainly delivered.
Brixington
played some sparkling passing football that was a pleasure to watch.
The
chances were being created but not taken until midway through the first half
Luke Spray popped up at the far post to give Brixington a deserved lead with a
neat finish.
The
Blues pushed for the second before the break but couldn’t add to the scoreline.
The
second half play was not quite up to the levels of the first half but with
chances coming and not being taken by both sides until a neat move involving
Spray and Luke Bradford was finished by Karl Riddell arriving late in the box
gave Brixington a two goal lead.
A
few minutes later the third goal was scored by Tom Taylor as he swiveled and hit
a left foot shot into the net from 20 yards.
Kentisbeare
reduced the arrears with 10 minutes to go but Brixington held firm to take the
three points.
The
whole team can take great pride in the level of play that was reached against a
very good Kentisbeare side who were unbeaten before the match.
Brixington:
Josh Bray, Sam Dickinson, Sam Wells, Alex Sparkes, Luke Bradford, Luke Spray,
Josh Jones, Karl Riddell, Adam Otto, Callum Shipton, Tom Taylor, James Flockhart,
Nathan Doble, Jack Watkins.

Stoke
Hill Celtic 0-3 Blues (Taylor 2; Bradford)
Brixington
got their season off to the best possible start with a deserved three points
against old foes Stoke Hill.
With
the sun shining The Blues were on the offensive as wave after wave of attacks
were thwarted by some last ditch defending, Stoke Hill were struggling to cope
but were slowly getting into the game and just as it seemed they had stemmed the
tide Brixington struck two quick fire blows.
A
neat move ended with Luke Bradford rifling a shot past the Stoke Hill keeper and
Stoke were soon to be two down as Tom Taylor latched onto a through ball and
drove the ball into the net.
The
rest of the half was even as both sides seem to tire in the hot
conditions and The Blues went in at the break two goals to the good.
With
changes made at the interval Brixington got a third almost straight after the
restart as Taylor once again latched onto confusion in the Stoke Hill defence
and finished calmly.
Brixington
were still creating chances but some great saves and bad finishing kept the
score at 3-0.
The three goal lead was kept intact by a superb save from Josh Bray that would have had goalkeepers in the Premier League proud to have made.
A
good all round display by the whole squad but a word for the captain Karl
Riddell whose tireless running kept driving the team forward.
Brixington: Josh Bray, Sam Dickinson, Sam Wells, Alex Sparkes, Luke Bradford, Luke Spray, Josh Jones, Karl Riddell, Adam Otto, Callum Shipton, Tom Taylor, James Flockhart, Nathan Doble, Jack Watkins.
