Blues 6-2 Heavitree

Tremendous blues fightback coming back from 2 down.

Brixington kept up their charge on the title with a fantastic fight back lead by Jack Greenslade who hit a second half double.

The weather conditions and a strong swirling wind played a key part in this game with Heavitree having the benefit of the wind in the first half. The visitors made the early running as blues had to adapt to the windy conditions and at times struggled to clear their lines. Heavitree took the lead after ten minutes when blues defence were indecisive and paid the price. Heavitree doubled their lead when blues stopped after a handball decision went against them. This spurred the home team into action and blues wingers Adam Croft and Jack Greenslade started to threaten down the wings Croft whipped in a cross but striker Adam Wakely failed to get the all important touch. Greenslade raided down the left and on two occasions pulled his shot just wide of the post. Midfielder Hugo Demetre drove a shot just wide and Croft just missed the upright as blues went in search to pull a goal back. Blues finished the half much the stronger with striker Sam Bird working tirelessly for the team causing Heavitree to retreat. The blues pressure finally paid off Croft whipped over a corner and Mark Lever was quick to pounce and force the ball over the line right on half time.

Second half with the wind at their backs Blues powered their way forward Heavitree couldn’t deal with the windy conditions as blues lay siege on the Heavitree goal and in a two minute spell blues had turn the game around wakely picked his spot with a low drive giving the keeper no chance then with the next attack Wakley broke away down the right and his cross was turned in by Greenslade. Blues were now rampant and sensed there were more goals Demetre drove in a shot from outside the box that keeper turned onto the post. Bird drove a shot over the bar. Blues went further ahead when Greenslade did well to cut the ball back from the by line for Demetre to coolly finish from close range. Blues defence were rarely troubled with Josh Sale Jordon Javadi and Ross Bright all very commanding. Brixington continued to power forward and Heavitree struggled to cope with their pace and slick football. Greenslade added a fifth after good work by Bird and the winger blasted the ball home from close range. Not to be out done Croft made it 6 – 2 when he drove home from close range to complete a fantastic comeback for the blues and to keep their eyes firmly on the league title.

Greenslade fires blues back to the top of the league

Brixington came out on top in this top of table clash to take all 3 points and go clear of their title rivals Pinhoe.

What was going to be a close affair between the two top sides proved to be just that. Blues started well and took the game to the home side with good early pressure striker Sam Bird was fouled on the edge of the box Mark Lever’s low free kick was almost turned in by Adam Croft. Winger Jack Greenslade was causing problems down the left with his pace and sent over some crosses that threatened the Pinhoe goal. Blues broke the deadlock when once again Bird was fouled this time inside the box and Lever coolly dispatched the penalty. There was a desire about the blues play with Hugo Demetre and Lever winning the midfield battle blues defenders Josh Sale, Ian Perkins, James Atkinson and Ross Bright were all on top of their game. Blues then got the two goal cushion they were looking for sale sent forward a searching ball that Greenslade pursued the winger didn’t give up and from an acute angle managed to plant the ball into the net. Pinhoe came back at blues and keeper Jordon Javadi was at full stretch to keep out David Hood’s effort.

Second period Blues were down hill but as expected Pinhoe came at blues looking for a way back into the game at the same time blues were looking dangerous on the break. Pinhoe finally pull a goal back when for once the blues defence just switched off at the vital time. But within minutes blues restored their two goal lead croft broke down the left he sent an inch perfect pass into the path of Greenslade and his superb left foot drive nestled in the bottom corner of the net. The game continued to see saw but blue then went further ahead good work by Wakely and Bird found Greenslade in space and the form he was in he didn’t miss to make it 4 – 1. Brixington had further chances to increase the lead when Croft sent in a cross that Wakely couldn’t get enough on the ball to steer it pass the keeper. Bird also had a chance but the striker pulled his shot wide. Wakely then fired a free kick over the bar and Demetre hit a volley just wide of the goal. Pinhoe though never gave up and pulled the score back to 4 – 2 and then came a controversial decision in the game when keeper Javadi seem to gather the ball with two hands Pinhoe striker Hood headed the ball into the net from his hands only for the referee to give the goal with the score now at 4 – 3 Pinhoe sensed they mite get something from the game but Brixington held their nerve and hung on for a well deserved victory to take all three points.   Wakely’s hat-trick blasts brixington into Juventus cup final

Brixington beat rivals Pinhoe in this thrilling cup semi final with striker Adam Wakely grabbing a hat-trick to send blues into their third final in four years.

Greenslade crossed for striker Adam Croft but the striker failed to connect properly Adam Wakely headed narrowly wide as Blues threatened the Pinhoe goal. Pinhoe were dangerous on the break and Jordon Javadi in the Blues goal had to be alert when Pinhoe forwards found themselves in good positions inside the blues box but failed to beat the Blues keeper.

Brixington’s defence was well marshaled by the dominant Josh Sale and Ian Perkins with Ross Bright and Gage Seldon playing his first game of the season for the blues also playing their part. Both teams continued to cancel each other out throughout the first half. Blues won the moral victory keeping a clean sheet against the wind.

Second half Blues started to use the pace of their forwards to full effect Mark Lever and Hugo Demetre in midfield started to influence the play with quality balls forward for the blues strikers to feed off. Blues broke the deadlock when Sale passed to Demetre in midfield his clever ball through to Wakley was finished with a fine low drive. Brixington continued to turn the screw with the wind behind them blues then doubled their lead when Bright found Demetre he in turn sent a fine ball down the wing for Greenslade to deliver an inch perfect cross for Wakely who headed passed the keeper from close range. Pinhoe reacted well and tried to break the blues down but the blues defence were first to every ball and were superb in their work rate. Pinhoe then did manage to pull a goal back when they scored from close range to set up an exciting last 20 minutes. But Brixington had other ideas and striker Wakley pounced again as he got free in the box to squeeze his shot past the Pinhoe keeper to restore their two goal. Pinhoe tried to come back again but blues battled and fought for every ball and were determined to see the game out and in the end ran out worthy winners and now await the winners between Central and West Exe to see who they face in the final. A tremendous display from Blues u16’s as they went on the rampage hitting 12 goals against Central with Jack Greenslade 5 and Adam Wakley 4 grabbing most of the glory.

Blues come from behind to take all three points

Blues showed great character going behind early in the game to recover well and take the spoils.

Striker Adam Wakely hit the bar with a looping shot Ali Mahmood headed wide with the goal at his mercy but it was only a matter of time before blues would strike Midfied duo Hugo Demetre and Mark Lever were influencing the attacks for the blues as Adam Croft and Jack Greenslade raided down the wings. At time there was some desperate defending from the visitors but they couldn’t prevent Croft’s low drive for the Blues equalizer. Blues continued to dominate and from a Croft corner Lever volleyed home from close range to put the blues ahead. Blues defence was rarely troubled and were well marshaled with Ian Perkins, Josh Sale, Jordon Javadi, and Ross Bright all in command.
